FHA Exhibits Use Christmas Theme The F.H.A. sponsored a Christ mas exhibit on December 6 in the A.H.S. home economics de partment. All the arrangements and displays were made by the students. In the department were table arrangements, Christmas cards, bulletin boards, different ways of wrapping Christmas packages, and tree decorations. The tree was decorated from utensils in the kitchen. The county home economics de partments had exhibits on dis play also. The home economics depart ment was.open from 7:00 to 9:00, and the public was invited to view the exhibits. New Club Is Now Getting Underway Officers have recently been elected for the Speaking and Writing club. Catherine Atkins will act as president, Jimmy Grif fith as vice-president, and Betty Gantt as secretary and treasurer. There have been several short meetings at which Mrs. Fry, the advisor, gave to the members in formation concerning the differ ent groups and associations spon soring contests of writing short stories, essays, poetry, and of speaking on given topics for prizes, scholarships, and other honors. Diploma Makes Trip To Germany After serving in the Pacific campaign during World War II and in Germany during the past six years, Sgt. Tommie B. Phillips of the United States Air Force received his Albemarle high school diploma in Munich, Ger many, October 9, 1951. Sgt. During his training period, Sgt. Phillips took work to qualify himself for a high school diploma. He then wrote to Mr. Claud Grigg, asking that his diploma be sent to him. Several days ago Mr. Grigg re ceived a second letter from Sgt. Phillips. In the latter he stated that he had received his diploma and that he hoped to come to Albemarle soon to thank him personally for sending it.
