Yes, Paula was chosen as Girl Athlete of the Month be cause of her cheerfulness and sportsmanly conduct towards others. Paula has been on the basketball squad for two years, serving as a substitute. Last year, she won a monogram sweater. Playing as a substitute in the game with Monroe, Paula scored eleven points for the Bulldogs. Most of her points came from her long shots. • Paula is interested in other sports besides basketball. She likes to see football games. Last fall she was a sponsor for one of the players. Although Paula is short and little, she loves to play tennis and softball. She also skates and enjoys hiking around mountains. If you happen to be looking for her, you will find her at all the games and perhaps playing football herself! HENRY CARPENTER This month Henry Carpenter is our athlete of the month. Henry plays guard on the basketball team, and has been on the varsity for the past two years. He is 5’ 9” tall and has brownish hair and grey eyes. Be sides playing basketball, Henry was one of the King Pins on Coach Jeffords’ Tumbling team. He also loves swimming and tennis. He helped the 11th grade place second in Field Day last year by participating in the boys’ 200 yard relay and the boys’ and girls’ 200 yard relay. Although Betty gets most of his attention, Henry still finds time to participate in sports and keep his scholastic record high. September will probably find him enrolling at Carolina, his favorite school. If he goes, we hope that he will continue the good work he has carried on throughout his high school career. The basketball season is in full swing now and both teams have shown a good record thus far. The girls are under the able coaching of “Ma” Schell, while the boys are piloted by Coach Jeffords.
