Returning for next year will be high scorers Jerry Traywick and Bill Huckabee, along with C. Lawhon, C. Barringer, O. Lynn, G. Deese and C. Mauldin. The best of luck to these boys. Wifh such prospects as this team has, may they have a very good season. ***** ■Recently the boys’ varsity basketball team made a trip to Raleigh to see the Southern Conference Basketball tournament. They left in the morning and saw two games that night. They had a very enjoyable day and so did those that were out of school the next day. Those making the trip with Coach Jeffords were Leslie S., Bruce L., Keith B., Jimmy S., Claude L., Jerry T., Bill H., Roger M., C. Barringer, Gene D., Robert L., Pete N., C. Mauldin, Claude G., Sonny Bowers and Jake Carter. ***** Boys’ Hi-Y championship in basketball was recently won by the seniors. All the teams. Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior, played in a round of tournaments. When a team lost two games, they were eliminated. The seniors, after losmg one game, came out as the victors. All other teams lost two games. ***** Towards the spring of the year we get our baseball equip ment out and get ready for the season. Well, the baseball season has gotten under way with the A. H. S. baseball team. Last year’s team won the conference and from that team we have only two boys returning this year—Claude Lawhon and Ray- gene Smith. But under the coaching of Toby Webb we feel that they will have a very successful season. Two Bulldogs On Conference Squad Prologue With Apologies To Chaucer (ALTON TALBERT) We were riding in my car On a journey not so far To entertain a nice big crowd. And if we did we’d be so proud. There were five as we went along. Interesting characters drowned in song. I’d like to describe to you three of the best. To me they rate high in the character test. Fiddler First was our fiddler, with clothes, O! so gay, For that bright shirt a price he did pay. He wore black boots with golden spurs. Completed at top with beautiful furs. His character stood out like the colors he wore. He wasn’t a cowboy, horses made him sore. Just a musician, the best of his kind, A better looking boy, you just couldn’t find. Soloist^ With our party a soloist did go, A fine soloist as he could show. He wore a suit with a bow-tie bright. To all the girls he’s a good-look ing sight. Character like his is very hard to find. If you ever meet him your friend ship will bind. As for his singing, the people can’t wait; He tells the girls his wife won’t let him date. AHS Stunt Night Was Successful A large crowd enjoyed the fifth annual Stunt Night which was held at the A.H.S. auditorium on February 15, at 8 o’clock. Even though there was a heavy rain, there was a large crowd present for the event. This event has been held for the last five years and is sponsored by the Mono gram club, the proceeds being used to buy sweaters for the club members. A program of about fourteen stunts and skits was presented by the physical education classes under the direction of Coaches Mary Schell, Bill Jeffords, Jake Carter, and Toby Webb. Some of the stunts and skits were “Negro Preaching Scene”, “Saturday Night Fish Fry”, and “The Story of Frankie and John ny”. The time between skits was filled by funny jokes and remarks from Bill “Jerry Lewis” Huckabee, who was the master of ceremonies. Comedian Our funny man is just like a clown. He acts so crazy, it most knocks you down. He wears patched pants and un derwear of red. Different matched socks, and a hat on his head. On the street and on the stage There’s just as much difference as night and day. When he’s on the stage he looks like a nut. But anywhere else, a gentleman, clean cut. Traywick, six feet and four inches tall, played center this year and was high scorer with a total of 304 points. Being only a junior, Jerry will return next year, and it is very likely that he will break this record. Jean Barringer, a senior, has been a first string guard for the girls for two years. She has stop ped many opposing forwards short of the basket. Albemarle athletes have a habit of making all-conference and all-state teams, and these two are very worthy representa tives of their alma mater. PROOF OF THE FACT that singing is not all that goes on in Mixed Chorus is this little conversation. ‘T hate to wear a robe,” stated Martha Rae Harris. Mr. Fry replied, “What are you going to do when you get to heaven?” ^ MISS HARRISON WAS teach ing the Bible lesson about what the people said to Jesus. Joyce Lewis said, “You mean to say that the people talked mean and hateful to Jesus?” Miss Harrison: “No, I didn’t m'ean to say it like that.” Joyce; “O.K., you are for given.” Compliments Of Cabarrus Bank and Trust Co.
