Delegates Go to Convention Students Enjoy Watching Movies In order to make the subjects that are taken in the school more enjoyable and more easily un derstood, films are being shown to the students in connection with their various subjects. One of the science labs in the basement, which was formerly used as a classroom, has been equipped to show movies to the students during the day. Many of the films are shown during the class periods.- How ever, the movies in connection with the guidance programs are shown during activity period. Re cently the projection room has been used several times during the lunch hour on rainy days for those students who remain at school for the entire hour. In connection with the guid ance programs in the classes, the freshmen have seen two films entitled “How to Study and “Making the Most of School . Along with their study of mar riage, the seniors have seen “Are You Ready for Marriage” and “Marriage is a Partnership”. Such films as “Music In America”, “Vocal Music”, and “Your Voice” were shown to the girls’ chorus, the ninth grade chorus, and the mixed chorus. In the physical education de partment, the freshmen and sophomores have seen “Basket ball Fundamentals”, “Basket ball Today”, and “Exercise and Health”. Students in the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades who are tak- ing typing have seen four films entitled “Duties As A Secretary”, “Know Your Typewriter”, “Office Etiquette”, and “Advanced Typ ing”. The English classes have seen films on Julius Caesar, William Shakespeare, and parliamentary procedure. Also, to help acquaint them with the library the stu dents have seen such films as “Choosing Books to Read”, “Find the Information”, and “The Im portance of Making Notes”. All freshmen, who are requir ed to take general science, have been enjoying the following movies: “Iron Horse” and “Mak ing A Tire”. The biology stu dents saw “Gift of Green”. Students in the eleventh grade in connection with their study of American history have seen “Our Declaration of Indepen dence” and “The Federal Govern ment,” while sophomores taking World history were shown “The Medieval World”. Did You Know That “Flick” Talbert reads the Sunday paper? The 10th grade is loaded with handsome boys? Doug Knotts won’t let anything keep him from coming to school? James Lisk has a reserved stand ing place on the square? Ruth Clark wants a “Manless Wedding”? Mr. Jeffords has a “stoplight” vest of bright red plaid? The students have found a sub stitute for the airport? There’s a geeks’ convention on the square every Sunday? “Perfidia” isn’t a girl’s name? T,-Boe McLendon needs two stools at Harmanco’s to be comfor- Donald Almond has put in a re newal for his dog tags? French II students are graduat ing into Morganton after at tempting the translation of “Sans Famille”? Jimmy Brown went wild over the marimbist’s assistant? Roger Morris is afraid of women drivers? David Morrow is the “Carolyn Miller” of the basses? Martha Morrow drinks milk at night? Sherrill Aldridge is afraid of thunder storms? Junior Josey is considering be coming a carnival barker? The Speaking and Writing club acquired a treasurer for the duration of a picture for the annual? David Plowman wears Mennen shave lotion? James Gibson has brown eyes? Virginia Helms likes red Life- S3.VGrS ? The freshmen class is the quiet est one in the halls? Some culprit in a chorus class left a wad of chewing gum in a seat? The following films have been shown to the various math classes: “Geometry In Action”, “Language In Mathematics”, “Managing the Family Income”, and “The Meaning of Percent”. A very interesting movie en titled “The Shortest Way Home” was recently shown to the Di versified Occupations class along with the sociology classes. Miss Beatrice Holbrook is in charge of these movies, which are all of an educational na ture. A number of others have been ordered and will be shown in the future. Delegates from the National Honor Society of A.H.S. will at tend the state convention to be held at Asheville, April 3 and 4. Two delegates will be elected to represent A.H.S.’s National Hon or Society at the convention. They will be accompanied by Mrs. Westerlund.
