You may think of pirates as al
ways looking exactly alike and
being exactly the same type of
people, but it wasn’t that way
with the ones aboard our ship.
We had the Dead-Eye Dicks,
Blackbeards, and Captain Kidds,
of course; but there were many
others.
For instance, we had many
friendly pirates, and the friendli
est were Emily Milton and V. L.
Harwood.
Adding joy and laughter to our
Treasure Island voyage were the
wittiest pirates: Joyce Lewis and
Junior Josey.
Perhaps the navigators on our
ship were the most versatile:
Patsy Williford and Doug Knotts.
Also on our ship were the mid
shipmen, the strong hard working
people, who were the best ath
letes : Kathryn Kimrey and Leslie
Swanner,
Meals on our ship were very
enjoyable because our cooks were
most original. They were Nancy
Jo Haynes and David Morrow.
Everybody knew the crow’s
nest crew. They have been the
most popular aboard. They were
Betty Brunson and Keith Byrd.
Drinking was common among
the pirates, and perhaps the gay
est were the best dancers—Sylvia
Morrow and Jimmy Brown.
The cabin boy and chamber
maid must have been the most
studious because they were al-.
ways studying the faces of the
men. They were Jo Ann Griffin
and David Plowman.
The old sea-goers who had been
to sea many times were a great
influence on the crew. The oldest
sea-goers and the most influent
ial were Barbara Crowell and
Jimmy Skidmore.
Just below the captain, came
the next in line for office and the
most likely to succeed, the cap
tain’s mates: Carolyn Jones and
Joe Gaskin.
The only good looking pirates I
have ever seen were the captain’s
children: Betty Lynn Crowell and
Joe Clayton.
Depending wholly upon our
captains to bring us safely to port
at Treasure Island, we looked
hopefully towards our most de
pendable: Patsy Pettit and Har
old Smith.
This composed a full crew for a
safe voyage to Treasure Island.
Joe College, in court for speed
ing, said: “But judge, it’s just
simply in me to do things fast.”
Judge: “All right, see how fast
you can do thirty days.”
