Page 4 THE FULL MOON December 19, 1952 Bulldog Barks Chorles McManus James Gibson ATHLETES OF THE MONTH BILL HUCKABEE The Full Moon salutes two more very fine athletes this month. They are Bill Huckabee and Tub Bowers. These boys have been a great help in making the 1952-53 football season a success. Huckabee, commonly called Huck, is a 6 foot 2 inch center. Bill was one of the mainstays in the Bulldog forward wall. Time after time Huck came through to bring the opposing ball carrier to the turf. Huckabee not only starred from the line backer positions, but he was one of the best offensive players too. He leaves his position at center and as a signal caller. Whoever fills his position will have a hard time topping his record. Bill is not only a fine football player, but he is outstanding in basketball and baseball. He plays forward on the basketball team and does a very fine job. He served as a utility man on the baseball team, where he showed his ability. We don’t know where Bill is going to school next year, but wherever he goes, they will get a very fine athlete. Here’s wish ing these boys a successful future. Remember, alway buy Camels. Huckabee does. TUB BOWERS After a rapid observation one could see why we would select Tub as one of the most outstanding students in AHS. During his five years’- stay in high school one could find Tub on the athletic field working his way to the top of a fine foot ball career. When the final record was tabulated on Tub’s excel lent extra point kicking, we found that he missed only four con versions, but there were three blocked and three fumbled kicks that Tub could not help. Just to show you how important Bowers has been to our team, we would like to take you back to year before last when the Bulldogs defeated Harding with a score of 14-12. Last year the kicking edged out Concord 7-6, while this year the score with Ashe- boro ended with a victory of 21-19. With these conversions you can see that Bowers is a fine fellow to have around. Women, work, and swimming seem to be the idea for a pas time with our Tub. Bowers not only is outstanding in school, but he takes an ac tive part in the Boy Scouts. If you are looking for two swell, all around fellows, we recom mend Huckabee and Bowers. « * « We would like to congratulate Coach Webb and his coaching staff for the fine work this season in football, not only in making a winning team, but also on the fine material which has put several of the boys on all conference and other honor teams. * * » This season found several of the Bulldogs playing their last football game for AHS. To Huckabee, Bowers, Bruton, Gibson, Snuggs, Traywick, Lawhon, and R. Smith, as you hang up the old equipment for the last time, thanks for a real job done well. GIBSON AND SNUGGS MAKE TRIP Each yec^r Martin Walker, Inc., sponsors a well-rounded pro gram for the most outstanding players of high school football in l.h0 stcit0 This year the local football squad selected James Gibson and Gene Snuggs to make the trip to the Chapel Hill-Raleigh area.
