Page 4 THE FULL MOON February, 1954 Bulldog Barks BOBBY REEVES LARRY TALBERT ATHLETES OF THE MONTH DORIS HINSON The girl athlete of the month, Doris Hinson, just scored again. Every one knows Doris for many things, but especially her ability to play basketball. She has played on the varsity squad every year in high school. Each year Doris earned a monogram sweater. She led the girls’ team in scoring her first two years and was in second place the third year. Doris also takes an active part in school activities. She is a member of the Junior Red Cross Council, Monogram Club, Boosters’ Club, Black Masque, Sports staff of the annual, Sports staff of the Full Moon, and a member of the mixed chorus for two years. Her willingness to co-operate has won her many friends. Doris plans to enter business school after graduating from Al bemarle High. She wishes to continue playing basketball if pos-. sible. CLAUD GRIGG Being an outstanding performer in both football and basket ball, Claud Grigg has earned the honor of being Athlete of the Month. Claud’s main job during the football season was punting, which always proves to be a tough job. Many times the Bulldogs were pulled out of holes by his punting. Basketball season is well under way and Claud has been one of the main reasons for the success thus far this season. Claud is known for his ability to shoot and handle the ball. Claud is interested in almost all athletics and does quite well in all of them. His favorites are football, basketball, swimming, softball, and golf. Everyone in school knows Claud from the active part he takes in school work and organizations. Claud hasn’t decided which school he will enter this fall but wants to study pre-med. With his qualities he will surely be out standing in any field. WILL THEY MAKE IT? Basketball season is nearing the half way point and both the boys’ and the girls’ teams are battling hard for a spot in the con ference tournament. Only two teams from the southern division of the South Piedmont Conference will be invited to the tourna ment. At the time the paper went ^ press both of the local teams had lost only one game. China Grove, Landis, and Concord are the teams to beat in girls’ basketball. Concord edged out Albemarle in their first meet ing. Evelyn Kimery has been the leading scorer for the girls. Jo Ann Coley, Doris Hinson, and Janet Glover have all been hitting for better than ten points a game. Judy Barringer, Harvey Ann Smith, and Louise Cooper have been holding the opposition down. Kannapolis and Landis are the teams to beat in the boys' league. The only loss absorbed so far was given by Kannapolis. Richard Jordan plays center and has been the leading scorer. Larry Talbert and J. W. Foster play forward; Otty Lynn, Claud Grigg, and Larry Chance are the guards. Our teams have good possibilities, and if they are given good support by the students, both teams may make the tournament. Morgan Insurance Agency, Inc. Mutual Insurance p. O.
