February, 1954 THE FULL MOON Page 5 Bulldogs Given Annual Banquet Morrow Mountain Lodge was the scene of the annual banquet given by the Rotary and Lions Clubs for the Albemarle high school football squad. The thirty-eight members of the squad were served barbecued chicken, after which Coach Toby Webb introduced each football player to the two clubs. Jim Gill, the freshman coach at the University of North Carolina, was the guest speaker. Mr. Gill spoke of the origin of football and of how it has changed during the years. He discussed the dif ferences in the football he played when he was a boy and that of today. Emphasis Week (Continued from Page 1, Col. 3) Eddie Fenters read the scripture. Za- lotta Harris led in the service and George Weaver presented the scripture. The Boys Double Quar tette presented special music. The final service in the series was held Thursday night. Mr. Neilson’s message was “Adventur ing With Christ”; Dickie Cashwell presided, and Phyllis Greer read the scripture. Prom Is Planned By Junior Class Miss Misenheimer, junior class sponsor, announced that plans are under way for the junior-senior prom, which is to be held April 9. The orchestra committee. Bill Beeker, Frances Ross, Elaine Low- der, is busy making arrangements for hiring an orchestra, since the junior class has thus far raised $431. The prom committee consists of the following juniors: Skipper Gantt, chairman; Frances Litaker, co-chairman; Charlotte I^pe, Elaine Lowder, Judy Scaggs, San dra Westerlund, Joan Renger, Pat Allen, Frances Ross, Amorella Tucker, Dickie Cashwell, Johnny Rummage, Johnnie Williams, Jef- fie Lee, Donnie Smith, Bobby Peck, Charles James, John David Moos^ Bill Beeker, Yoder Whitley, and Lendell Smith. Only one was lost; that one to Asheboro. The starting line-up for the B-team is Wade Smith, forward; Marvin Clark, guard; Jimmy Coggins, center; Franchot Palm er, forward; and Elliott Gaddy, guard. In their first game, they rolled over the YMCA Jrs., 63-25. Miller with Coggins feeding him the ball, scored 19 points for high score. Win Again The locals faced more competi tion in their next game against the YMCA Midgets. The score at the end of the first half was 16-15 in favor of the Midgets. During the third and fourth quarters, Coggins along with Smith pulled ahead of the Mid gets for a final score of 41-37— favor of the B-team. Lose to Asheboro The losing game was with Asheboro. The B-team tried very hard, but they could not surpass the basketball ability of Ashe boro. The half time score was 11-24 in favor of Asheboro. Dur ing the third and fourth quarters, Jimmy Coggins, leading the Bull- pups, narrowed the margin be tween their score and Asheboro's to five points. The final score was 50-45 in favor of Asheboro. Defeat Concord In their next game with Con cord, the Bullpups edged the Spiders, 44-42. The scoreboard at the end of the first quarter was 12-10 in favor of the B-team. Driving hard the next quarter, Coggins, leading his teammates, widened the margin to 26-16. Trying very hard the next quarter, the Spiders came within six points of the B-team. Albe marle, being very good on both defense and offense held their lead until the final buzzer blew. The score, 44-42, Albemarle. Coach Bill Robinette has shown fine coaching ability this season. The inspiration he has given his team is one of the main reasons for their winning streak. High scorer for the Seniors is Jake Foster with 15.533 point average; Don Jones and Ralph Setzler are next with averages of 14.500 and 10.250 respectively. The high scorer for the second place Junior team is Larry Chance with a 14.500 average; Skipper Gantt has a 12-point per game average. Stoker has the high average for the freshmen with 8.833 points per game; Miller is second with a 7.833 average. Even though the Sophomores are trailing, they have the player who has scored 79 points, more than any other Hi-Y player, Jim my Almond. He also has the high average for his team, 13.166 points per game. Second place Palmer has a 7.833 point average.
