Rotarians, Lions Honor Students The Student Rotarian and Stu dent Lion of the month are two very outstanding members of the senior class of AHS. The Student Rotarian, Dickie Cashwell, besides being president of the National Honor Society has many other important posi tions and honors, and also plays end on the football team. Dickie is past president of the junior class. The Student Lion, Charles James, is president of the stu dent body, outstanding center on the football team, and holder of many other important positions. Both boys are very active in Mixed Chorus and church activ ities. Former Students Sing At Colleges Several former students of the Mixed Chorus who are now at tending various North Carolina colleges have been selected as members of their college glee clubs. Vance Troutman and Lowell Hartsell, a tenor and bass respec tively, are singing in the glee club at Wingate College. Kath erine Groves, an alto, is a mem ber of the University of North Carolina Glee Club, and the Air Force Glee Club at North Caro lina State claims Larry Talbert, a tenor. Claud Grigg, also a tenor, is a member of two choral groups at Duke University: the Men’s Glee Club and the Choir. Successful Drive Held At A.H.S. AHS was the scene of a suc cessful Red Cross drive last week sponsored by the Junior Red Cross Council. Officers of the Red Cross Coun cil helped to carry on one of the most successful drives that has ever been held at AHS. This year the drive amounted to $25.84, twice the amount that was turned in dast year. The homerooms of Mr. and Mrs. Fry, and Miss Caughman were the only ones who gave 100% to the drive. Three students. Opal Eudy, Phyllis Greer, and Elaine Mills were guests at the first luncheon meeting given at Hotel Albe marle Friday afternoon for rep resentatives of county high schools. Speeches were delivered briefing these students on the different phases of the Red Cross work. Officers of the Junior Red Cross Council are Opal Eudy president, Jeanette Hinson vice-president, A.H.S. Bible Club Holds Meetings Each Thursday morning the Bible Club, under the direction of Miss Abrahamsen, holds a prayer meeting in room 76. These meet ings are begun with a short de votional and then each member is given a chance to present a problem to the others. These problems are discussed by the club members, who try to arrive at a solution. At the last regular meeting of the 'Bible Club several members who attended a retreat at Che- raw, S. C., reported on their ex periences. More plans were made for the Bible Club paper. Several days ago the Bible Club members met in the projec tion room' to see slides taken at the initiation of new members. Johnsie Russell secretary, and Jo Ellen Brooks treasurer.
