November, 1955 THE FULL MOON Page 5 GRIDIRON RECORD AMONG BEST; BULLDOGS RATE HIGH IN STATE A great amount of interest has been noticed among students who desire some facts about previous years on the A.H.S. gridiron. Since 1949, A.H.S. has lost only seven games, and the teams have not been defeated in conference play in three years. The last conference game lost was to Kan napolis in 1952, this by the small margin of 19 to 14. The 1949 Bulldogs had the least successful of seasons during the period between 1949-55, losing four games. In 1950 the Bulldogs did better, with nine games won. In 1951 they lost to Monroe 7-6, but this game was forfeited, giving A.H.S. a record of none lost, two tied. In 1953 the A.H.S. charges en joyed one of the greatest years in the school’s history, downing everything in sight. This includ ed taking an unforgettable game with Belmont for the W. N. C. H. S. A. A. championship. In 1954 it was the same story, 'vith the exception of the post-sea son game, which was lost to Lex ington 19-14. STOP! Eat at HOY'S Restaurant 150 East Main Street This year’s chapter is well known. Any Albemarle citizen, when on enemy territory, can hold his head high and look anyone square in the eye. As you may well see, there could be some running away of the imagination as to the reason for successful years. Albemarle citizens may look to the past with happiness for years of plenty, and may look to the fu-ture with hope. Truly A.H.S. has seen football. Band Is In Group At UNC Halftime Helping to brighten U.N.C.’s day at the Tennessee game, the A.H.S. band, along with fifty-five other high school ban^, performed in the halftime show at Kenan Stadium. Too many musicians were pres ent for there to be enough room for any formations, so each band simply lined up across the width of the field. Blue and white uni forms were seen on the thirty- three and one-third yard line, sandwiched in between Reidsville High’s blue and gold and Laurin- burg’s Scotch kilts. Five tunes, three played while facing the U.N.C. stands and two for the Tennessee spectators, were performed by the 1500 musicians. They were “The World is Waiting for the Sunrise”, “Irish Tune”, “Maninveen”, Tennessee’s “Alma Mater”, and U.N.C.’s “Hark the Sound.” Mrs. Hauss and Miss Cross chaperoned the band, while Wade McSwain acted as property man.
