T-V Quiz Program Mocked:
Starnes Wins 'Big' Money
The $64,000 question program
was given in the Albemarle High
School auditorium Friday, Nov
ember 11, by the Bible Club.
Instead of being sponsored by
Living Lipstick it was sponsored
by the Living Word of God. Jo
Parks, Kitty Almond, Peggy Lisk,
Libby Hatley and Peggy Smith
took part in the advertising of
the Living Word. Gene Burris
was the master of ceremonies,
Yvonne Hathcock introduced the
contestants, and Peggy Trout
man, George Lowder, and Pat
Starnes were the contestants.
The first contestant was Peggy
Troutman. Although she did a

very good job of answering the
questions, she did not get to the
$64,000 question. George Lowder
was selected from the audience
to be the second contestant. He
answered five questions and left
with $512.
Before the last contestant,
Peggy Edwards explained the
different versions of the Bible
and how each one was used.
Brenda Roberson sang “He
Lives,”
Pat Starnes was the last con
testant. She had been on the
program before and was ready
to answer the $64,000 question.
Pat brought with her Carolyn
Whitley as a helping hand to
help her answer the big question.
All the questions were taken
from Miss Abrahamsen’s first and
second year Bible classes. Pat,
being a very good Bible stu
dent, answered the questions cor
rectly. She donated the money to
Albemarle High School to build
elevators and to buy a supply
of cokes for everyone for years.
Trafific Tip: Stop on the red, go
on the green. Don’t sneak
through on the in-between.
Don’t make up your mind until
you have heard both sides.
The Music Goes
'Round and 'Round
By Fish Fisher
SWINGIN’ ALONG: Now that
a most successful football sea
son is over, the band has been
relaxing, engaging in such pas
times as drowning the “Water
Music Suite.” And while on the
subject of water, it can safely
be said that the band still has
no desire to perform in a water
ballet and hopes that it doesn’t
have to present again a mud bal
let, as was given at the Concord
game!
Halftime shows at the last two
games were fairly elaborate. Po
pular tunes, such as “Shine on
Harvest Moon,” “Stairway to the
Stars,” “The World is Waiting
for the Sunrise,” “I’m Always
Chasing Rainbows,” and “Pack
Up Your Troubles” were played
in formations of a moon, stair
way, sunrise, and rainbow. To
add even more variety to the
show, the majorettes did a fire-
twirling routine. As usual, “Hail
to the Varsity” received the hon
ored position of exit march. “A
Salute to Sousa,” consisting of
several Sousa marches with ap
propriate formations was pre
sented at the post-season game
with Asheboro.,
* 4:
ON THE BEAT: A group of the
band's most outstanding music
ians presented a program of sev
eral marches and popular tunes
to the Lions Club on November
9. Koontz and Haire went wild
on such tunes as “Five Foot
Two,” while Frick, Rogell, and
Fish demonstrated their fine
CLASSICAL technique in “I’m
Popeye the Sailor Man.”
Concert music, such as “Blue
Tango” and “Lustspiel” is be
ing practiced as the band is get
ting ready for an assembly pro
gram and a joint concert with the
Mixed Chorus, both to be given
around the middle of December.
To help get a more balanced
sound for concert work, several
band members have changed in
struments. Cary McSwain and
Jerry Cooper, both drummers,
have changed to euphonium and
French horn, while Post-Toasties
and Vance Huneycutt have
switched to French horn.

Students of Albemarle High
School are enjoying a unique
privilege in the form of Larry
Lisk’s record program, which be
gan three weeks ago and is on
the air each Tuesday and Thurs
day during activity period.
Larry Lisk, a junior at A.H.S.,
developed the idea of playing
records over the public address
system. He told his plan to Miss
Bankett and she sent him to Mr.
Cashwell, who made this plan a
real thing. Students at A.H.S. had
a record show.
Larry, or “Rat”, as most of his
friends call him, plays records
to suit all types of people. The
jive, instrumental, vocal, and
even semi-classical records are
heard on this half-hour program.
This marks another first at A.H.S.
and probably the first program
of its kind in North Carolina.
The students say they enjoy
the program and scientists state
that music soothes the savage
beast, so by all standards, this
program should prove to be a
great success at A.H.S.
