More than likely it will be one of the seven veterans that have come back to school this year. When asked why they came back, every one gave the same reply, “To further my education.” ! . There are seven veterans go- i to school here this year. ' They are Hugh Eudy, U. S. ^rmy; James Dennis, U. S. Air ^orce; Price Efird, U. S. Army; Bob Mauldin, U. S. Navy; Bob Archer, U. S. Army; James Cro- : U. S. Navy, and Charles Booge” Bowers, U. S. Marines. Five of these boys served over- seas. James Dennis served with fhe 118th Aircraft-Warning Sqd. North Africa. Bob Mauldin served on the U.S.S. Holder as a f'-P.E.-819 in England, France, ^^aly, and Korea. Bob Archer was Compliments of H. & L. Antietam as a Lead ing Seaman in Korea. James was also in on the Inchon invasion. “Booge” Bowers served with the 3rd Marine Division in Porto Rica and Japan. Most all these boys saw considerable action. Hugh Eudy served as a cook in the Transportation Corps in Fort Jackson, S. C., and Fort Benning, Ga. Price Efird served with the 8th Division here in the states. All these boys went to Albe marle schools before they went into service except Hugh Eudy and Price Efird. When asked the question, “Why did you come back to high school?” they answered in this order: Hugh Eudy, “to finish high school and enter Kings Business College.” James Dennis, “to fur ther my education and clear up the mistake I made by quitting school in the first place.” Price Efird, “because I wanted to fin ish high school and go to a good business college.” Bob Mauldin, “to get my high school diploma and to better myself for civilian life.” Bob Archer, “to further my education so I can study con struction engineering in college.” James Crowell, “to finish high school and go to Pfeiffer College.” “Booge” Bowers, “to finish high school and go back to the Merch ant Marines.” When asked the question, “What change impresses you about our school today over what it was before you went into serv ice?”, they all replied; “The teachers are willing to help you Lowder's Shop Body Repair . . . The candidates were divided into two groups. The members of one group carried an alarm clock with them, and each time the alarm went off, they had to get on their knees and start singing until the alarm stopped. The other candidates, loaded with shoeshine kits, had to shine the shoes of three Bible Club members. Twenty-eight new members were initiated into the club. Smarter Clothes ... EUDY GROCERIES Oil Qfig 2015 Charlotte Road Play Presented By Black Masque “Father Says No”, a one act play, was presented in assembly November 3 by the Black Masque. It was the story of two 14- year-old girls who weren’t allow ed to date or receive phone calls from boys because their father thought they were too young. When the father and mother left the house for a visit and grand mother asked some boys to come over, it resulted in a side-splitting affair. Members of the cast were: Susie Culp, Granny; Kay Cauth- en, Dibs; Zalotta Harris, Candy; Betty Boone, Mrs. Mitchell; Eu gene Burris, Mr. Mitchell; Ross Mason, Harold; Mickey Harwood, George; and Bob Mauldin, Chest er.
