October, 1956 THE FULL MOON Page 5 Camp Was Held For Football Boys To Get In Shape Toward the latter part of the summer high school boys began to think of the coming football season. Before starting into the season the boys going out for the team had to go through a sched ule of rugged practices. This took place at the football camp held at the high school, August 15-31. Each day at 5:15 the boys got up and went out to the field to practice. After going through their rugged calisthenics, they Were drilled into shape by their coaches, Toby Webb, Bill Robi nette, Don Knotts, Bill Lippard, and Doug Knotts. Also assisting the coaches and running the boys through their plays were last year’s stars Drag Kimery, Edshay Brunson, and Wade Smith. Prac tice ended at 7:30. After thirty minutes of cleaning up, the boys Went to Central School for break fast. At 8:45 they were dismissed and were free until 1:00 p. m. At one all the boys reported back to the school, where they I’ested until 3:15. Their second practice started at 3:45 and lasted until 5:30. The boys were then free until 9:00 except on the nights skull practice was held, which was two or three nights Per week. Every night they were in bed at 9:00. On August 31 football camp |nded, with the boys in top shape for the oncoming season. /‘If I drove the bus like Pun- kin runs I’d have a wreck.” — Coach Webb. 1956 BULLDOGS First row, left to right: Graham Harwood, Roger Whitley, Charlie Smith, Jerry Lowder, David Grigg, (co-captain), Robert Q. Bullpups Tie Monroe B-Team Albemarle and Monroe B-teams fought to a 0-0 deadlock in drizzl ing rain in Monroe two weeks ago. The Bullpups played good ball but couldn’t push the pigskin in to pay dirt. Albemarle got to the ten-yard line three times but couldn’t pull the much-needed touchdown play. Welch, the out standing back of the game, ran a kickoff back fifty yards but was caught by the safety-man. Outstanding linemen for the Bullpups were Stiller, Kirk, and Kimmer. D. Roach and P. Brown did fine jobs in the backfield. Opener Dropped 19-6 To Concord A. H. S. Bullpups dropped the opening game of the 1956 “B” team football season to the Con cord “B” team by a score of 19 to 6 in the Albemarle High Stad ium last Monday night. Albemarle showed good offen sive play early in the game by scoring first on an end run by Frankie Fenters. The extra point attempt was good but was not official because of too many Al bemarle players on the field. The second attempt failed. Concord scored once in the first half and twice in the second half. The scores came on 60 and 50 yard reverses and on a 55- yard pass play. Outstanding line play for the Bullpups was turned in by Har- "Graham Harwood carried on the ball.” — Mr. Hatley. Nehi Beverage Co. Inc.
