May 29, 1957 THE FULL MOON Page 5 Many Recognized- On Awards Day Many students received awards in the annual Awards Day pro gram held May 21 during sixth period. Libby Sue McLeod was pre sented the Best Girl Athlete award by Mrs. Whitley. Steve Gantt Was awarded the Best Boy Ath lete medal by Mr. Webb. Lane Brown and Barbara Hath- cock, the affirmative debating team, and Jo Parks and Pat Starnes, the negative debating team, received debating awards by Miss Hassel. Pat Starnes was announced the D. A. R. Good Citizen for next year. Pat Starnes was awarded first place in the World Peace Essay Contest sponsored by the V. F. W. Auxiliary. Evelyn Underwood won second place and Peggy Smith received third place. These awards Were made by Mrs. Viola Ritchie. f*eggy Smith also received the history medal-given by the W. O. W. for being the outstanding U. S. Historj^ student. Jerry Lou Holbert took first place and $25 in the T. B. Essay Contest. Mrs. John Haynes made the award, donated by the Stanly Compliments Of PURCELL'S DRUG CO. Where STUDENTS MEET County T. B. and Health Associa tion. Wade McSwain, Ronnie Milli- can, Libby Hatley, and Peggy Smith were announced as dele gates to Boys’ State and Girls’ State respectively. Robert L. Smith was the recip ient of the science medal awarded by Mr. Hatley. Good attendance awards were presented by Mr. Fry to Rona Jane Mauldin and Linda Duke. Linda Duke was also awarded the Chorus medal by Mr. Fry. Linda Moose was presented the majorette award, and Rogell Hun- sucker the band award by Mr. Hauss. Receiving the Best All-Ai-ound medals were Mickey Dry and Jea nette Hinson. Mr. Webb presented these awards. The $100 F. T. A. scholarship was awarded to Rona Jane Mauldin by the club’s president, Barbara Burleson. The Honor So ciety chose Jewel Bunting to re ceive the $100 bond it gives every year. Glenn Talbert received the $100 United States savings bond as the Citizenship award donated by the Civitan Club. Glenn Talbert has also received one of three Dickson Foundation Scholarships to the School of Textiles at N. C. State College; The value of this scholar- COLA Best by taste-test I6c Nehi Beverage Co. S. History medal; Jeanette Hinson, best all around girl; David Grigg, Morehead scholarship; third row— Glenn Talbert, Civitan citizenship award; Robert L.
