May 1, 1958 THE FULL MOON Page 3 Seniors' Banquet Set For Tonight “Castle Beneath the Sea” will be the theme of the ’58 Senior Banquet to be held in the school cafeteria, May 2. Sue Winn and Kay Swindell were in charge of planning the banquet. Those painting the mural were Judy Efird, chairman, Marney Lowder, Billie Hartsell, Sammie Holshouser, Garnald Efird, Becky Coble, Betty Holt, Diane Watkins, Kathryn Morton, and Gay Cro well. Emma Lynn Morton and Rita Morris prepared the menu. Peg gie Sue Lisk and Pat Starnes were in charge of planning the pro gram. The decorations were planned by Martha Huckabee and Diane Watkins, co-chairmen, Kay Swin dell, Libby Hatley, Gail Buck, Becky Coble, Ronnie Millican, and Cary McSwain. The waitresses are Janice Har ris, Georgette Lampsi, Jane Chandler, Tamara Almond, Kay Pennington, Judy Pheiffer, Su zanne Mauldin, Millie Hatley, Al- dena Harrington, Barbara Reed, Jane Story, Billie Jo Barrier, Jo Parks, Priscilla Burris, Cynthia Efird, Hunter Hearne, Jane Cot ton, Glenda Sue Honey, Nancy Jo Ivester, Mickey Doby, Sandy Lefler, Barbara Hinson, Ellen Rogers, Brenda Huneycutt, Linda Curlee, Betty Smith, and Billie Rae Atkins, 'Black Magic' Is Theme For Hop The Sophomore Hop was held Friday night, April 11, in the school cafeteria. “Black Magic”, the theme, was well depicted by the mural of “peering eyes” and the center piece, which was a huge black ball covered in silver and stars. Smaller groups ofi stars scatter ed throughout the cafeteria com pleted the effect. Refreshments consisted of gin ger ale punch and cakes. Songsters Enjoy Tour In Mountains Singing of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic” climaxed a concert presented by the Senior Mixed Chorus for an appreciative Lenoir High School student body several weeks ago. The night preceding this per formance, the chorus sang at Ap palachian State Teachers College. The program included sacred mu sic, songs from “Oklahoma”, oth er gay, carefree numbers, and patriotic selections, as well as solos by Peggie Lisk, Eddie Bur leson, and Lynda Jordan. After sleeping either in college dormitories or in the homes of Boone residents, the singers en tertained the Appalachian High School students. This concert was followed by a similar one at Lenoir High School, after which the chorus returned home. Chaperones for the trip were Mrs J. L. Cashwell, Mrs. F. M. Stonestreet,' Mr. Wallace Wil liams and Mr. Jack Clark. This group also presented a program of sacred and patriotic numbers in a Pfeiffer College as sembly. Featured in this program were soloists Peggie Lisk and Lynda Jordan, the boys’ quartet, and the girls’ ensemble. Freshmen Theme Is 'April Love' Freshmen and their dates danced from 8-11 o clock on Fri day, April at the Freshmen Fling held in the school cafe- ^^The theme “April Love” was carried out in decorations and music. 4-ur. /ii All the freshmen, under the di rection of committees, helped to make the dance a success. The following served as committee chairmen: Susan Ausband, dec orations; Margaret Ann Fuw, re freshments; Bryan Fox, publicity, and Linda Haynes and Brenda Furr, music. This year Kay is business man ager of the Crossroads, a member of the Booster Club and FTA, co- chairman of the senior banquet committee, and one of the writers of the class prophecy. As a junior she was a com mencement marshal, senior ban quet waitress, and chairman of the entertainment committee, and served on the Prom commit tee. Among the offices Kay has held while in high school have been vice-president of the Tri-Hi-Y, treasurer and president of her homeroom, vice-president of the Boosters’ Club, and secretary of the Creative Writing Club. Kay’s acting ability was dem onstrated when she portrayed a devilish kid sister in the junior play, “Stag Line”. She also has a major role in the Black Masque play, “The Storm”, Because of her willingness to serve, Kay has been on various committees such as decoration for homecoming, refreshments for Sophomore Hop, and decoration for other dances. Playing bridge and watching television are iier pastimes when she doesn’t have her favorite meal of spaghetti with meatballs followed by a generous piece of strawberry shortcake. Her activities at Central Meth odist Church, where she is a member, have included being MYF area program' chairman two terms and a substitute Sun day .§cliool teacher. Eddie's lovely , baritone voice has certainly added a lot to the Mixed Chorus during the past three years. He has been a solo ist for the chorus and has re ceived a superior rating in the district contest. This year he is serving as president of the Mixed Chorus. Music is not the only school ac tivity in which Eddie has partici pated. He was a member of the varsity football team for two years and has been the president of his homeroom. As a member of the Hi-Y, he has held four ma jor offices and has played on the Hi-Y basketball team. He worked faithfully as a member of the Sophomore Hop and the Junior- Senior Prom committees. Civic activities also take up a lot of Eddie’s time. He is a stu dent Rotarian and a member of the Junior Optimist Club. For several years he was a Scout pa trol leader. On Sunday Eddie attends the helped in Bible School, For entertainment, Kay enjoys a good AHS versus ? football game. As for next year she plans to attend WC as a math major. Students Frolic On The 'Atlantis' The hard work of the juniors, under the leadership of Jimmy Kluttz, class president, and Miss Lillian Misenheimer, class ad visor, came to a joyful climax on the night of the Junior-Sen ior Prom, April 18. Everyone, fully attired in eve ning dresses and white dinner jackets, made their way through the door of King Neptune’s castle to find them^elvs in a beautiful underwater paradise, “Atlantis”, which was the theme of the prom. To the right of the entrance was a mural in which King Nep tune himself sat reigning over the gala events of the night. The end wall represented a lovely underwater scene. To one side was a treasure chest filled with jewels and gold and silver pieces. The center of attraction on the south wall was a sunken «■ ship named “The Finale”, signifying the final prom in the AHS gym. From this point the Josey-Brown ComH)o furnished the music for the night. Chaperones for the night were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kluttz, Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Cain, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Parks, Mr. and Mrs. Har ry Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie B. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Toby Webb, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Cash- well, Miss Inez Bankett, Miss Lillian Misenheimer, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul B. Fry. North Albemarle Baptist Church, where he is a member. He is president of the Young People’s Class. Eddie has a hobby that very few boys his age dare to take up. This hobby is aviation. He likes to read airplane books, see air plane pictures, and most of all pilot his own plane. As for food, Eddie thinks that a good juicy steak is tops, espe cially if he’s got a cute majorette to enjoy it with him. Next year will mean college for Eddie.
