May 1, 1958 THE FULL MOON Page 5 Track Team Has Advanced From Third To Second Place Bulldogs Start Track Schedule Kannapolis was the team to beat as they captured first-place honors with 47^/4 points in a four-school track meet on the Albemarle athletic field April 3. Mooresville proved to, be the number two team in the event with 35 points, and the Bulldogs followed with 22 points. ^ China Grove trailed the pack with on ly 6% points. Albemarle’s one consolation was the fact that Roger Smith, a Bulldog tri-captain, won the broad jump event with a soar ing 18 feet 9% inches. The sum mary follows: 100 - yard dash — Noel (K), Hampton (K), Smith (A), Roach (A). Time: 10.8 seconds. 220 - yard run — Cook (M), Welch (A), W. Adcock (K), Tay lor (C.G.) tied for third. Time: 24.4 seconds. 440 - yard run — Cook (M), W. Adcock (K), Hampton (K), Kim- rey (A). Time: 54.2 seconds. 800 - yard run — Noel (K), Brooks (K), Smith (M), Gabriel (M). Time: 2:12.4 minutes. Mile run — Lewis (M), Herrin (A), Mauldin (K), Kimpton (M). Time: 5.10 minutes. Shot put — Gloosson (K), Ber ry (M), Haskins (K), Armstrong (K). Distance: 42 fefet, 6% inches. Discus throw — Berry (M), Hampton (K), Haskins (K), Arm strong (K). Distance: 123 feet, 6 inches. High jump — Beaver (K), and Taylor (C.G.) tied for first, Hon eycutt (M), and Gabriel (M), tied for third. Height: 5 feet, 2 inches. Broad jump — Smith (A), Bea ver (K), Brooks (K), Gabriel (M). Athletes Compete In Thrilling Meet The Albemarle Bulldogs land ed a second place position in a three-school competition track meet between Albemarle, Wine- coff, and Mooresville, on the A.H.S. football field. The A.H.S. team had boys to win first place scores in two events. Roger Smith took a first place position in the broad jump, moving 19 feet 8V2 inches. Also he took a number 1 position in the high jump. Those who made the trip were Bobbie Mullis, Suzanne Finch, Pat Clemmer, Linda Wilhoit, Lin da Harward, Mary Frances Reyn olds, Sharon Cranford, Sylvia Thompson, Linda' Little, and Lo retta Nowling. At the last club meeting five girls were selected to go to the F.H.A. camp at White Lake. They are Linda Wilhoit, Reba Stamp ed, Pamela Thompson, Suzanne ch, and Bobbie Mullis. n observance of National FHA Week, the club presented a short comedy entitled “It’s Nice To Know How” to the freshman and sophomore classes. Directors of the play were Lin da Wilhoit and Claudette Wil hoit. ‘ Jeff Hartsell Is Contest Winner Jeff Hartsell placed third in the oil painting category of the art talent contest for high school seniors sponsored by the North Carolina Federation of Women’s Clubs at the Woman’s College. “Peaceful Valley” was the title of Jeff’s painting. Jeff has been interested in art as a hobby for several years, and has studied under a private teacher for two years. Freshman Group Gives Program “Czechoslovakian Dance Song,” “Night and Day,” and “Tea For Two” were songs enjoyed,by Cen tral School P.T.A. at their last meeting when the Ninth Grade Chorus presented a musical pro gram. Solos on this occasion were “I Believe” by Norma Delk, “All the Things You Are” by Pam Treece, and “With A Song In My Heart” by Betsy Holbrook. Two num bers sung by the Ninth Grade Girls’ Ensemble were “Blue Skies” and “He”. Future engagements for this chorus include programs for the East Albemarle P.T.A. and the Rotarj^^lj^ M. & W.
