Page 6 THE FULL MOON Oct. 3, 1958 Junior And Senior Chorus Groups Sing By New Piano Members of the Senior Mixed^- Chorus and Junior Mixed Chorus have a brand new piano to sing by this year. A beautiful blond Baldwin piano can be seen in Mr. Fry’s room. The piano was selected to match the furniture of the room. An all-male slate of officers will be heading Senior Mixed Chorus this school year. The of ficers were elected last spring. They are president, George Har wood; vice president, Sherrill Williams; secretary, Max Mor gan; and treasurer, Don Mont gomery. Senior Mixed Chorus has many plans for future performances. In order to be ready for these ap pearances, the different sections of the chorus hold rehearsals aft er school hours. The altos and sopranos practice on Monday and Tuesday afternoon respectively. The tenor and bass sections prac tice on Monday nights. Another important group of the choral department is the Junior Mixed Chorus. The officers of this group are president, Susan Ausband; vice-president, Edith Smith; secretary, Larry Palmer; and treasurer, Karen Herndon. Junior Mixed Chorus members are looking forward to this year’s activities, which will include singing for religious and civic groups, taking part in exchange programs with other schools, the district contest, and other public presentations. “This makes my elbow feel fun ny.”—Pat Saunders. Those are two very familiar words to the ASHS drummer during football season. In fact they are the necessities that start every march and lively piece of music. that the band plays while on the field, in for mation, or in the stands. The band members have put in a lot of hard work this year to try to give the fans a good half- time show at home and at out-of- town football games. Although the band has lost quite a few members from last year, it sounds bigger and better than it has for some time. Mr. Hauss has really put the mem bers through their paces, starting this summer and working every afternoon during sixth period. After losing quite a few brass musicians, many band members thought that the band wouldn’t sound nearly as good as last year’s, but evidently they were mistaken. .Due to the hard work of Mr. Hauss, the “left-overs” have been made into a good, full sounding brass section. Projects which enabled the cheerleaders to obtain the blue and white wool, pleated skirts were cake sales, the powder-puff football game, and selling of pencils. Cheerleaders sporting the new skirts this year are Pam Sells, Sylvia Smith, Susie Napier, Pam Truett, Bonnie Lowder, Gail Van- derburg, Sara Henderson, and Janice Harris (chief). ed three mascots to march with them this year and one new ma jorette, Bobbie Atkins. The three mascots are Caron Cooke, grade one; Star Still, grade two; and Marilyn Gantt, grade three. Bob bie is in the ninth grade at Jun ior High. These young ladies should add a lot to the appear ance of the band this year. The blue-clad music makers plan to travel to all of the ASHS football games this fall and are looking forward to October 25, when they will see U.N.C. play Wake Forest at Carolina Bafid Day. On November 1, they will watch Catawba battle Presbyte rian. Don’t forget, the next time you hear the band start to play, do something besides watch the ma jorettes—listen! Seniors Capture Three Art Prizes Two Albemarle High School Seniors captured three art prizes at the Stanly County Fair. Judy Fesperman won second prize in the oil painting, free hand division. The painting was of a group of “Scotties.” She was awarded a four dollar check. Oaksie Eudy captured two third-place prizes. One picture was a watercolor of a flower; the other was of a girl. Oaksie was given a two dollar check for each. Direct Traffic ^ In 'Dust Bowl' “Dust babies,” or rather pick ed members of the student body, have been assisting Mr. Cashwell and Coach Frazier in directing traffic at the school. Roger Smith, Sherrill Williams, “Chip” Cain, Tom Fatkin, and Jimmy Kluttz were seen direct ing traffic, every morning and afternoon during the first weeks of school.
