Page 6 THE FULL MOON November 18, 1960 Senior Mixed Chorus Sings For N. C. Chapter Ol NATS Members of ASHS Senior Mix ed Chorus helped demonstrate the subject “Guided Enthusiasm for the High School Singer” to 30 members of the North Carolina Chapter of the National Associa tion of Teachers of Singing as sembled here on November 4. Serving as hosts to this group of musicians were Paul Fry, Mrs Katherine Almond, and Dr. George Brewer. Officers of the Senior Mixed Chorus as well as other members of the Student Body served in va rious capacities throughout the day. Pam Treece and Diane But ler, president and treasurer of the chorus respectively, were pages. Ronnie Herrin, vice-presi dent, and Mike Fuson^e made signs directing the N.A.T.S. mem bers to the school. Karen Herndon, secretary of the chorus, along with the social committee composed of Betsy Holbrook, chairman, Ann Bell and Florence Morton, presided over a coffee hour. Mrs. Coble and several homemaking stu dents prepared the table and decorations in the Student Lounge. Mrs. Carter, Hazel Grose, and Lovell Burleson from the commercial department help ed register the guests. The entire chorus sang “Beau tiful Saviour”, “He Watches Over Israel”, and “Showboat Medley”. John Troublefield and Pam Treece presented solos. Luncheon was served to the N. A. T. S. members from the school cafeteria. Immediately following the afternoon session. DeMolay Chooses 1961 Sweetheart Pam Treece was crowned as the DeMolay Sweetheart at the an nual Sweetheart Dance held Oc tober 22 at the Jaycee Hut. Pam’s qualifications were enter ed in the local contest by a mem ber of the DqMolay, listing her various activities in church, school, and social functions. Every member voted on the Sweetheart of his choice, completely on her qualifications. As the Stanly DeMolay Sweet heart, Pam will compete with girls throughout the state for the title of State DeMolay Sweet heart. This contest will be held in Charlotte at the State Con clave some time during the sum mer. Seniors, Juniors Will Be Tested Approximately seventy-five Sen iors will be taking the Scholastic Aptitude test which will be given here December 3. The Board of Higher Education in North Carolina has made it mandatory for all students who will attend state-supported schools to take this test. All students who did not regis ter for this test to be given De cember 3 are urged to register for the one which will be given March 18. Eighty-six Juniors have regis tered to take the National Merit Qualifying Scholastic Test which will be given here March 7. Those Tests Will Do It Every Time Roy Wilson, after being en tirely engrossed in an algebra test, felt pangs of hunger so he followed his stomach to the cafeteria since he normally eats dinner immediately after his third period class. As he entered the cafeteria, he turned cold and sweaty, for there was no one present. A quick glance at the clock was followed by his headlong exit. It was only third period and he was late for English. Now what to do? Of course! Wheedle an excused slip from Mrs. Hall to get into Mrs. Fry's third period English class. Mrs. Hall is a very imderstanding person, however, and it didn t take much wheedling. On returning to Mrs. Fry, Roy gave her the slip and re turned to his seal. Mrs. Fry looked puzzled as she examin ed the ^ip. Finally she queried, "Roy, what does this mean? 'Walks in SleepM" Bible Club Plans Will Help Family The Bible Club is sponsoring a Thanksgiving project to help a needy family. Jann Barrier, chairman of this project, has contacted the Wel fare Department to locate such a family. Members of the club were ask ed at the last meeting to bring canned goods and fruit to the No vember 22 meeting to be held at Bryan Fox’s home. This food will be arranged in a decorated basket and will be taken to the family by various club members during the Thanksgiving holidays. Some of the money contributed will pay for enrollment fees and the rest will go to the American Red Cross Children’s Fund and local service projects. Officers have been elected and are as follows: president, Nancy Aldridge; vice-president, Steve Isenhour; secretary, Jane Crutch field; and treasurer, Brenda Smith. Nancy Aldridge and Joanne Herrin attended a countywide ’^ed Cross meeting October 28. Senior Boys Are Lions, Rotarians Student Lions and Rotarians have been chosen from the boys of the Senior Class at ASHS through the month of December. The boys receiving this honor for November are John Trouble-, field, Rotarian, and Kennie Furr, Lion; and for December are Bill Burbage, Lion, and Ronnie Herrin, Rotarian. During the month of October, the co-captains of the football team were honored. Mike Wolfe was the student Lion and Jimmy Burris, the student Rotarian.
