Page 8 THE FULL MOON November 18, 1960 Lydia Hearne Represents ASHS In Carrousel Parade Lydia Heame will spend her Thanksgiving holidays in Char lotte, where she will be repre senting ASHS in the annual Car- olinas’ Carrousel celebration. She was officially crowned as the 1960 Albemarle Senior High School Carrousel Princess during a schoolwide assembly program on October 28. The Rev. Edwin Carter, a member of the Satur day Morning Toastmaster’s Club of Charlotte and a representative of the Carolinas’ Carrousel com mittee, did the honors. During her two- day stay in Charlotte, Lydia will be very busy. She will arrive in Char lotte at 3:00 November 23, and will register at Hotel Charlotte. The princesses will get acquaint ed and will attend a tea during the afternoon. Wednesday night Lydia will attend a banquet attired in a becoming yellow dress. After the banquet she will travel to the Coliseum, where all the Carrousel Princesses will be presented at a big ball. • This will end Lydia's first day at the Carrousel. Lydia will be up early Thurs day morning to have breakfast with the judges. All the prin cesses will then go to church services and be entertained at a luncheon. At 3:30 Lydia will leave the Four Girls Apply For AFS Program Jane Crutchfield, Becky Basin ger, Nancy Russell, and Elizabeth Gutherie have applied to the AFS for participation in next summer’s foreign exchange program. If selected, the candidates will be placed in a home in one of the participating countries and live as a member of the family for the summer. So far ASHS has had two stu dents selected for this program. Last summer Robert Iddings was sent to Germany. The year be fore, Charles Brown was in Swe den. Robert stated that it will prob ably be late spring before a se lection has been made. One of the requirements is that an applicant must complete two years of French by the end of this school year. hotel to participate in the an nual Carrousel parade. Who has a capital of $100,- Martha Burleson Wins In Contest Martha Burleson, an ASHS Sen ior, brought home the bacon for the newly-formed De Ca Club in the form of a first place prize in the speech contest at the District Convention of Distributive Educa tion Clubs. Attending the convention along with Martha were Miss Thomas and 21 other D. E. students. It was held November 2 at Pleasant Garden High School. Highlighting the day’s events for the local De Ca Club was- Martha’s speech on “The Art of Being a Star Salesman.” She won over 12 other students. Marthr is automatically eligible for the state contest on March 9 at Wo men’s College. Piedmont District Meeting Attended By Library Club Bible Translator To Be Club Guest The regular meeting of the Bi ble Club will be held next Tues day evening at the home of Bry an Fox on McGill Drive, Rev. William Njonan, Jr., of the Wycliffe Bible Translators, will give a most interesting talk concerning his religious work among people with no written language. He will discuss the procedure which is used in pre senting the Bible to these people. The Club is happy to have Mr. Geddie Strickland, a missionary to the Indians of Brazil, as choral director for the remainder of the year. Plans concerning the filling of 000? 11. Members of the library club and Mrs. Harrison attended the South Piedmont District Meeting which was held November 4 at Indian Trail High School. Those "who attended the meet ing were Pat Black, Linda Eudy, Sue Clayton, Doris Eudy, Phoebe Tucker, Judy Hudson, Jimmy Watson, Betty Hudson, Gwen Wil liams, Brenda Hopkins, Marlene Burleson, Judy Blackwell and Linda Harwood. The officers held a special meet ing October 18 to elect commit tees. Those on the Program Commit tee are Joyce Williams, chairman; Frank Casper. Sharon Lane, Judy Blackwell, Vickie Hunsucker, Wayne Huneycutt, Brenda Hop kins and Judy Hudson. The Scrapbook Committee is Linda Eudy, chairman; Gwen Williams, Doris Eudy, Pat Bl'^ck, Joyce Benton, Margaret Barbee, Sue Clayton and Linda Harwood. The Publicity Committee is Do lores Thompson, chairman; Jim my Watson, Marlene Burleson, Sylvia Barnes, Judy Almond, Linda Hatley and Phoebe Tucker. Thanksgiving baskets will be dis cussed.
