BULLDOG BARKS
Athletes Of The Month
JOHN FURR
Our first Athlete of the Month is Johnny Furr. Having just
completed a fine football season, Johnny served capably as one of this
year’s fine tri-captains.
“Jug,” as he is known to A.S.H.S. students, performed capably
as guard on both offense and defense. Many coaches of opponent
teams commented on Johnny’s fine defensive play.
He received many honors in his last year of football play for
A.S.H.S. Among them was All-Conference guard, honorable men
tion as All-State guard, and check-list.
Now starting the wrestling season, Johnny is being counted on to
do a fine job in the heavyweight class. A starter in his first year,
Johnny goes into this season with experience, and a fine reputation.
We are therefore honored to salute a student fully worthy of
carrying the title of Athlete of the Month.
RAYMOND PERRY
Our next Athlete of the Month is Raymond Perry. Raymond is
also changing from football to wrestling.
Raymond finished his third and last year as a member of the
varsity team. Holding down the> positions of center on offense and
guard on defense, Raymond performed capably and willingly.
Now going into his third season as a member of the wrestling
team, Raymond will probably be one of this year’s starters.
Raymond is probably better known to A.S.H.S. students a?
S.A.D.’s leader. He is also known for his poetic and writing abilities.
Many others know him as the recipient of the “Most Original” su
perlative.
We are therefore proud to honor Raymond Perry, who carries
the name of A.S.H.S. wherever he goes as Athlete of the Month.
Let's Suppoit Team
Basketball and wrestling season is now underway, and how many
of us can say that we have been to a game?
The teams need school support just like any other team. Most
teams do better when some of the student body supports them.
Last year our basketball team completed a successful season, al
though they lost several capable players.
Our basketball team has 11 members. Height and experience are
handicaps, but with hard work and a few games the team will shape
up fine.
Although the girls’ team is made up mostly of Sophomores and
Juniors, hard work is doing wonders with them.
The wrestling team had a fine season last year and will be look
ing forward to another successful season this year.
This year there will usually be a home game featuring some sport.
The schedule has been set up so that when the basketball team is
playing at home the wrestling team will be away, and vice versa.
So let’s all get out and support our teams.
