New Program Is
Used In Phys Ed.
For the first time at A.S.H.S.
a three-year program is being
u^d m tne gins' pnysical educa
tion department.
Heading this program is Mrs.
Nancy Gamewell. During the
week she is working with the
sophomores and mainly stressing
team sports.
The combination eleventh and
twelfth grade class is gradually
changing to individual sports.
This is to teach the students
sports which they will be able to
use after they finish school.
Several activities, such as, vol
leyball, tennis, and physical con
ditioning, will be used all three
years because the students will
more than likely have a chance
to use them after high school.
Another new addition to the
program is rhythms. The tenth
grades will have fundamental
rhythms; eleventh and twelfth
graders will have early Ameri
can and modern rhythms.
A free choice activity will help
the students review some of the
former activities.
From the combination class
will come the Intramural assist

but later in the season he was
switched to tailback. He served
the Bulldogs well with some spec
tacular runs that usually ended
with a touchdown. Jimmy is a
good ballplayer and always does
his best whether he is on the field
or off the field.
Ronnie Howard played won
derful ball for the Bulldogs by
holding down the posit.on of
end. Ronnie, also a two-year
man, did a lot for the team by
his wonderful spirit and team
work. He is an extra good de
fensive end, and this counts a
lot when the chips are down.
These boys were chosen to rep-
-esent their team because of their
ability as leaders.

Four Grid Players At ASHS
On SPG All-Gonference
Four members of the Albe

All-Conference squad.
The four Albemarle lads—Jerry

seniors this year at Albemarle

ball throughout the campaign
for Coach Bob Gantt and were
highly instrumental in the out

Intramural Sports
Program Is Good
Soccer and volleyball are the
intramural sports currently in
progress.
The boys’ soccer and the girls’
volleyball competition are being
narrowed to the semi-final stages.
The sports to be considered next
are girls’ and boys’ basketball
and boys’ wrestling. Also under
consideration for the near future
are boys’ and girls’ badminton,
boys’ and girls’ tennis, singles
and doubles tennis, separate
track events, and horseshoes.
Also being discussed by the
coaches is the annual field day.
Although no definite plans have
been made for the individual
events, the intramural field day
will be held.
field, carrying the ball an aver
age of 22 times in every game he
played, averaging five yards per
try. Jerry was the leading scorer
for the team with 63 points.
Tackle Jeff Underwood was the
offensive and defensive quarter
back for the Bulldogs. Jeff’s ag
gressive and determined play in
the forward wall left little to be
desired.
Right in there taking the
bruises along with Jeff was one
of the Bulldogs’ fine tri-captains,
guard Johnny Furr. Johnny
proved to be one of the toughest
players in the forward wall of
the Bulldogs.
End Steve Burleson played his
position with much skill and de
termination, tackling opposing
ball carriers with savage force
and also being on the receiving
end of numerous passes thrown
by Albemarle backs.
