Baseball Players
Learn By Errors
Albemarle Bulldogs’ baseball
team finished the season with a
two win - ten loss record to take last
place position in the conference.
Coach Nye said that it was a
very disappointing season for all
concerned. The two main factors
in the record of the team were
lack of hitting and fielding errors.
These were due to lack of experi
ence on the part of most of the
players. There were only a couple
of boys who played steady ball.
The pitching was good throughout
the season but the lack of hitting
hurt badly.
“If it is possible to leam by mis
takes we should have the smartest
place team ever in the conference,”
stated Mr. Nye.
Second Place Is
Won By Albemarle
Bill Sweet and the mile relay
team led Albemarle’s track team to
a second place in the Bi-Confer
ence Track Meet April 4 at North
Rowan High School.
Sweet broke his own conference
record in 120-yard high hurdles and
also won the 440-yard dash.
The mile relay team of Terry
Mabe, Bill Mauldin, Lester Bivens,
and Sweet set a new conference
record when they broke the old one
set by Albemarle last year.
Although these records were set
by Albemarle, Statesville still won
the meet. Albemarle placed sec
ond; Concord, third; Kannapolis,
fourth; then came North Rowan,
West Rowan, South Rowan, Chil
dren’s Home, Asheboro, and East
Rowan.

Decided At ASHS
This school is very fortunate in
that it has had an excellent home
room intramural sports program
under the direction of Coach Gantt
Regretfully, only a few of the stu
dents gain any recognition. There
fore, a few of the poor, weak boys
and girls are going to be honored in
these unusual athletics.
The winner of the 100 yd. dash
to the lunchroom ended in a dead
heat between Ronald Sells and
Wayne Dry.
If Janice Hearne and Jane
Crutchfield are not included, the
fence hurdles to the parking lot was
won by Skippy Baldwin, who was
followed closely by Louis Morton.
Richard Aldridge will be attacked
by the fellow members of his me
chanical drawing class for having
the best aim with a compass.
Jimmy Nance will be jumped
next because of his sure-shot T-
square.
The rating of Most Dangerous
Chemist will be conferred upon
Lloyd Crisco just as soon as the
smoke clears.
Asbestos gloves will be the prize
given Sammy Lowder and Arthur
bells for having the hottest type
writers.
There are several different fields
m which the rating of Expert has
been reached. First is Johnny Furr
and his putt-putt playing. Next
IS in the field of sleeping in class
Gary Barringer has this honor all
tied up. Last will be in the field
or yo-yo. There seems to be a tie
between Bill Crawley and Joe
Franklin.
