PAGE, ASHS CHOIRS JOIN FOR YULE CONCERTS Folk Song Groups Highlight Event Adding the spirit of a hooten- nanny to the Christmas music, the Coachmen, the Settlers, and the Chessmen, three popular folk singing groups which have recent ly been formed, performed sev eral Christmas songs during the choral concert December 5. The Coachmen, a group of four juniors and one sophomore, is composed of Fran Miller, vocal ist; Jerry Beaver, guitar; Joe Earnhardt, guitar; Staton Wil liams, guitar; and Bill Burney, sophomore, bass. TTie Coachmen performed “Sin Bound Train” during the concert and sang “Come Along” as an encore. They have made recordings for radio station WZKY in Albemarle and LEFT TO RIGHT: COACHMEN, SETTLERS, AND CHESSMEN (Continued on Page Eight) I 225 Voices Perform One hundred and sixty voices from the Page Higli School Choir of Greensboro and the Senior Choir of Albemarle Senior High School combined in the presentation of Christmas concerts December 5 and December 12. The visit of the Greensboro choir during the Albemarle concert was part of an exchange program planned by the choral departments of the Page and Albemarle Senior High Schools. Members of the Albemarle Senior Choir then traveled to Greensboro December 12 to appear as guests on the program of the Page Choir. “The Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah climaxed the annual Christmas Concert of the choral groups of ASHS, which was presented in the school auditorium December 5. Members of the Page High School Choir were special guests for this concert. The Albemarle Sophomore Choir, composed of 64 voices, vocal soloists, and ensembles were also featured. In all, more than 225 young singers presented the music of the Christmas season, both sacred and secular, in a colorfully decorated setting. Mr. Paul B. Fry, Albemarle director, and Mr. Robert T. Thursday morning began with a breakfast in the hotel, followed by Thanksgiving church services. The girls were entertained at the luncheon by Michael Landon, bet ter known as “Little Joe.” After the luncheon, Barbara returned to her room to dress for the parade which began at three o’clock.
