Oct. 29, 1965 Va Stanly FHA Has Annual Rally Stanly County Future Homemakers of Ameri ca presented their annual county rally in the ASHS auditorium October 22 at 7:00 p.m. The rally was presided over by County President, Barbara Caudle. Mr. Walter Smith, assistant principal, greeted the guests on behalf of the host school following the formalities of opening the assembly. Installs 1965-66 OHiceis Student Council members were installed during fifth period, Fri day, October 1. Dane Perry, S.O. President, opened the assembly by stating the purpose of the meeting. Sheri Talbert gave the devotional and prayer. After a double quartet sang the national anthem, Dane led the student body in the pledge of allegiance. Mr. H. T. Webb, principal, led the S. O. officers in the oath of office. Following that, Dane in stalled the student council repre sentatives and class officers and orcsented the student body with a pledge of loyalty. Afterward • he introduced Mr. Harry Malone, guest speaker. Mr. Malone spoke about purposes in life and how to achieve success in goals. Seniors Lead Honor Roll For this past six weeks grading p>eriod, the honor roll was quite a large one consisting of 42 seniors. 23 juniors, and 30 sophomores. Of these, 2 seniors, 4 juniors, and 4 sophomores made the highest hon or roll. The total number of stu dents making the honor roll was 95. Sophomores making the honor roll were Pam Burleson, Judy McCommons, Alice Henson, Jane Lowder, Melinda Lowder, David Mills, Patricia Burieson, Deborah Caudle, Kathy Hatley, Nancy Kusche, Jane Nicholds, Fossie Little Girls Play Good Guys The Albemarle girls football team will play the Big Ways Good Guys at the Senior High Stadium November 16 at 8:00 p. m. The team, coached by Coach Becky Stasavich, has been practifcing in preparation for the big game. Coach Becky Stasavich is presently negotiat ing with several highly quali fied, nationally known assistant mentors, and an announcement as to the assistants will be re leased shortly. Big Ways Good Guys con sists of a team of disc-jockeys from radio station WAYS of Charlotte. They have a 4-1-1 record and this is the first game of the season for the girls, so the outcome is ques tionable. Chief cheerleader, Tommy Blalock, and his squad will be there in good form to cheer the team on to victory. The Booster’s Club is planning on a huge turnout from the schools and the city to witness this spectacular game. There will be a caravan and bon-fire preceeding the game which will organize in the school parking lot at 6:30 p. ni. Coach Stasavich in an inter view with a “Full Moon” re porter stated, “They’ve got a pretty tough team, those Good Guys. But I have not seen a girl yet who could not handle a man. We plan to win, but after all, it matters not wheth er you win or lose, but how you play the game. But we’re going out there to win.” reports were given by the county secretary and treasurer. A carefully engineered fashion show was the highlight of the evening. Using a theme of a trip to Mars, Mrs. Agnes James and Miss Louise Furr of James’ Clothing guided the audience with a rocket ship of fashions, a perfect wardrobe for an interplanetary visit. Stage settings were dili gently and beautifully blended with the theme by Betty Brooks and the local FHA Club. A total of seven models, one from each club in the county, paraded before the audience in fashions for a young girl’s every occasion. Mrs. James and Miss Furr delivered commentary on the collection. Models for the event were Catherine Kelley, Al bemarle Senior High; Doretha Garmon, Kingville High; Sharon McCrady, Albemarle Junior High; Elaine EHrd, South Stanly High; Janet Pickier, North Stanly High; Becki Medlin, West Stanly High; and Betty Bennett, West Badin High. Mrs. James then drew the names for the door prizes which were registered for earlier in the evening. The prizes were cour tesy of James’ Clothing. To conclude the evening ac tivities, the new officers of the Stanly County FHA were install ed. It was announced that South Stanly High would hold the rally next year since it is the school for the incoming county presi dent. New officers that were in stalled are Jo Ann McSwain, president. South Stanly High; Doretha Garmon, vice president, Kingville High; Carolyn Smith, secretary, Albemarle Junior High; Joan Walker, treasurer. West Ba din High: Janet Pickier, reporter. North Stanly High; Carolyn Treece, parliamentarian, West Stanly High; Jennifer Taylor his torian, Albemarle Senior High; and Ellen Caudle, recreation lead er, Albemarle Senior High. Betty Fesperman, Cam West, Sherry Lowder, Sally Lowder, Bet ty Holt, Freida Deese, Cathy Cas per, Johnny Hartsell, Jimmy Har- wcad, Kitty Fisher, Becky Furr, and Missy Pegram. Sophomores on the highest honor roll were Sherry Lefler, Cynthia Noah, Mar lene Whitley, and Sandra Stegall. Perry, Webb To Compete For Morehead Dane Perry and Tom Webb, are nominees for Morehead Scholarships. They were chosen by a nominating committee com posed of 12 faculty members. Stanly County’s Selection Commit tee will now interview Dane and Tom. If this committee adjudges them to be qualified, they must then appear before the District Committee which will, in turn, recommend within the limit pre scribed, to the Central Selection Committee of the John Motley Morehead Foundations, those nominees adjudged to be quali fied.
