Page 4 THE FULL MOON April 28, 1967 BULLDOG BARKS By DAVID HALL During the spring season, the Athletic Department has four different active sports. These are baseball, golf, track, boys’ and girls’ tennis. In these sports, the Albemarle teams have set records. ■ Congratulations to Benton Dry, Bruce Smith, Ralph Burleson, Cynthia Noah, and Johnny Little, April’s Athletes of the Month. Benton Dry is an outstanding track man. He runs on the 440, 880, and mile relay teams. Through his work and determination, Benton has become a fine trackster. Bruce Smith and Ralph Burleson are co-captains of the boys’ tennis team. Both are seniors and veterans of the game. Both boys have been superior netters this year. Bruce is number one on the team; Ralph is number two. Cynthia Noah is Mrs. Bogle’s choice for Athlete of the Month. Cynthia has made many contributions to the team. She has won six singles matches. From the baseball squad, Coach Bill Merritt has chosen Johnny Little. “Johnny is a great defensive player and has shown a great deal of skill in base-running for a high school player,” remarked the baseball mentor. Coach Bill Cain and Coach A. W. McGee represented the coaching staff at a two-day gridiron coaching clinic on the University of Ten nessee campus at Knoxville, Tennessee, April 14-16. Accompaning them were Coach Jim Norton of West Stanly and Coach Ed Emory of Wadesboro. The men left Albemarle early Friday morning and returned Sunday afternoon. In the conferences the coaches discussed the defensive and offensive strategy of football, « In the Albemarle Senior High School Coaches Tennis Classic, Coach Frazier retained the cup by defeating Coach Cain in a netted singles dual. However, the champ ran into trouble soon after as he fell 6-0, 6-1 to Bruce Smith who reportedly laughed his way through the last game. Congratulations Coach, but better luck next time against the boys! Would you believe that Susan Wolf, sophomore standout on the girls’ tennis team, learned all she knows from her big brother? Even though she has been in regular training lately, it was reported that Keith still defeated her 6-4 in a recent singles battle staged on the ASHS courts.
