Jane Lowder and David Hall
will compete on district levels
for the Katherine Smith Reyn
olds and John Motley Morehead
Scholarships, respectively.
The Katherine Smith Reynolds
Scholarship for girls to the Uni
versity of North Carolina at
Greensboro is equivalent to the
Morehead award for boys to the
University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill.
Both awards are based on
scholarship, leadership, and
achievement.
The Reynolds scholarship is
worth $1,400 per year, and covers
all college expenses. A school
committee selects finalists from
the eleven state districts in Jan
uary.
Valued at $1750 a year, the
Morehead Scholarship accepts
school nominees: then the candi
dates enter county, district, and
final competition. District com
petition is in January.

Man may possess a perfect
physical body; yet if he has not
life, he is nothing. So it is with
Christmas. If Christmas has no
spiritual life, then it is merely a
ritual or a commercialized jum
ble.
All too often we try to smoth
er the Spirit of Christmas with
our glamorous ideas of “necessi
ties," such as an aluminum tree
and a “give-nothing, take-every-
thing” attitude.
But the Spirit always shines
through the danger; it shines ev
ery day of the year in our hearts
and minds.
With the hope of recreating
this life anew in every student,
The Full Moon staff dedicates
this issue to “Signs of a Living
Christmas." May it prove an in
spiration to each one of us as
we enter our Christmas season.
“And this shall be a sign unto
you; . . Luke 2:12. Merry
Christmas!
