Pfeiffer Competition
Mr. Jones leads the Senior Choir in vocal warm-ups before
rehearsal.
Chorus Sings In
Christmas Cheer
The Albemarle Senior High
Senior Choir and Chorus plan to
celebrate the Yuletide season by
presenting their concert of
Christmas and secular music,
December 15 at 7:30 in the
Central United Methodist Church
sanctuary.
Perfornling in the concert will
be the Senior Choir and the
Sophomore Chorus, both under
the direction of Mr. Bob Jones.
Mr. Jones is anticipating an
enjoyable performance by the
choruses, which will display
much work and progress. “I feel
that this group has surpassed the
final performance of last year’s
chorus. The Senior Choir is
performing a grade higher in
difficulty than last year and I feel
we have grown that much
vocally.”
The Senior Choir will present
selections of secular music in
cluding “For All the Saints.” To
recognize the Christmas holiday,
the choir will sing a number of
seasonal selections such as
“Carol of the Bells” and “Let the
Song Be Begun.” A girl’s sextet,
will perform an arrangement of
“Angels We Have Heard on
High” and a small men’s group
has selected “We Three Kings”
for their performance. Also
featured are soloists Mrs. Bette
Campagna, William Hudson,
Brian Souther, Carol Gwaltney,
and-Kathy Boone.
In addition to the Senior Choir
performance, the Sophomore
Chorus will contribute several
numbers including “Day by
Day”, and “There is a Great Joy
a Coming.” A brass ensemble
will accompany various selec
tions throughout the concert, as
will Gary Piazza, artist-in-
residence at Stanly Tech, on the
flute and guitar. These musicians
will also perform as an added
attraction between the choral
presentations.
Mr. Jones invites everyone to
the Christmas Choral Concert.
“We feel that auccoustically,
Central Methodist Church is an
excellent place to sing and we
invite everyone to join us in our
holiday celebration.”
Concert Spreads
Good Tidings
The members of the Albemarle
Senior High Concert Band set the
mood for the holiday season at
their concert of Christmas music
December 12th at 7:30 in the
Senior High Auditorium.
Directed by Senior High Band
director, Mr. Tim Hedrick, the
band presented many Christmas
selections including “Green-
sleeves”, and “Good Tidings of
Great Joy.” A favorite among
many band members was “A
Christmas Festival.” This song
consisted of a narrated story
highlighted by variations of
many Christmas songs and
hymns. The band members were
pleased with their performance.
Baritone player Melissa
McKeithen comments, “We have
put a lot of hard work into this
concert and I think we did a good
job.”

the testing were to stimulate
the students’ interest in the study
of mathematics, provide
recognition to bright high school
mathematics students, serve as a
forum for the exchange of ideas
on the part of high school
teachers concerning math, and to
expose high school students and
teachers to Pfeiffer College.
Council Aids
Needy Family
This Christmas, the student
body is helping to give two un
derprivileged children a Merry
Christmas. Through money
donated by the students, the
Student Council has bought
several necessities and a few
surprises for this unfortunate
family.
During the week of December
5-9, the Council set up the class
spirit jars outside the cafeteria to
give the students and teachers a
chance to donate money to the
less privileged. The jars were
available on Monday, Wed
nesday, and Friday. The class
which contributed the most
money will get three spirit points
for their good-will.
Band Steps High In
Tv^o Yuletide Parades
The Senior High Marching
Band has been given two honors.
They were invited to the
Salisbury Christmas Parade
Wednesday, November 21, and to
the Shrine Bowl game and
Parade, December 10.
The band, flag corps, and
majorettes took chartered buses
to the parade sites. They traveled
to Spencer and performed in the
Yuletide parade there, then
boarded the buses again and went
to Salisbury for a second holiday
march.
The Shrine Bowl, played an
nually in Charlotte, was the
second event the band attended.
It featured competition between
a team of outstanding High
School football players from all
over North Carolina and the
outstanding players from South
Carolina schools. Bands from all
over both states were invited to
participate in the parade before
the game and take part in the
half time presentation. Last year
Albemarle’s band was invited,
but it rained and they were
unable to attend.
