Elections
By HANK McSWAIN and
GRANT HERLOCKER
On November 15, the Powder Puff game
was scheduled to take place at the ASHS
stadium. The senior and junior girls fought
it out in a tough game of flag football. Dur
ing the game, the concession stand oper
ated to provide the fans with refresh
ments. The proceeds from the concession
stand and the ticket sales will be used
toward the Jr.-Sr. Prom. The senior
coaches for this year’s powder puff game
are Pete Speight, Willie Mainor, Don Cole,
and Robert Mack. The junior coaches are
Rob Byrum, Alvin Currie, Kyle Morton,
and Orlando Lilly.
The coaches from each team were able
to give insights of their team’s ability.
Willie Mainor, a senior coach, feels that
the senior team is very talented especially
on the line. Also, he states, “The pass will
be a major weapon of our offense”.
Overall Willie feels that the team will use
the typical backyard football strategy. On
the other hand, the junior coaches are very
confident about their team. Rob By rum, a
junior coach, feels that the juniors need to
run the ball as much as possible. He also
feels that there is some speed in the back-
field which will contribute to their success.
Coach Byrum states “What we lack in size
and strength we will make up for in execu
tion and aggressiveness”. Orlando Lilly
replies, “We will have an advantage
because we have a very quick team”.
Although the game is only flag football,
the girls played as if it were a clash be
tween arch rivals. A few comments from
the players express this feeling freely.
Katherine Snyder — Pain
Amy “Alzado” — If you want your head
left on your body, stay home!
Christi and Lee-Anne Williams — We
wished to God it could be tackle!
Jennifer Ney — Good luck juniors, you’ll
need it!!!
Tasha Helderman — Our number may
be few, but we’re still out to get you,
skeeter faces!
Kim Goodman — Actions are a lot bigger
than words!
Tammy Page — In reply to Amy
Alzado’s threat *- “Let ’em try”!
Melinda Smith — Rules are made to be
broken.
Angie Roach — Tradition will be broken.
Go she-boppers!
Jennifer Maiden — We don’t need luck.
Go get ’em juniors!
Mitzie Almond — Beware Amy
Herlocker!!!

have all the talent!
Janna Efird — R. I. P.
What are we in for over the next years?
Poll Conducted At ASHS
Barbara Ward conducted a poll among
Albemarle Senior High School students in
order to see who would win the 1984 elec
tions. Government students in her classes
sent ballots to all homerooms. On these
ballots, each student was requested to spe
cify race and gender. Ms. Ward then tal
lied the votes to obtain the results of the en
tire student body vote. Government
classes also voted individually and were
asked also to write why they chose each
candidate.
The majority of the students interviewed
felt that the mock election was worthwhile ^
because it gave them a chance to make
known their feelings about the candidates.
In the presidential race, Ronald Reagan
surpassed Walter Mondale with a vote of
371 to 204. Jim Hunt, with a vote of 296, de
feated Senator Jesse Helms who received
a vote of 274 in the senatorial bid. In the
vote for the House of Representatives, Bill
Hefner won over Hatris Blake 325 to 248.
Jim Martin who received a vote of 317 won
against Rufus Edminsten who received a
vote of 263.
The Republicans came out ahead in all
races except that of the Senate.
