With “Ice Castles” as the theme for the ceremonies, everyone gath ered close to each other to rekindle some friendships and memories. Tera Taylor and Erin Tyson were crowned the 1986 Homecoming Queens. After crowning each queen, Mr. W. K. Morgan gave both young ladies a bouquet of roses. Before the climax of the evening occurred, Cindy Brewer and Felicia Har rell Were announced as the junior court representatives, and Lisa Smith and Mel- ya Gould as the senior court representa tives. Each court member was also pre sented a bouquet of roses. By TONY BURNS Music lovers all across our school can now rest assured. The AHS choral depart ment has brought together some of the best singing talents in forming the 1986-87 Varsity Singers. Many students showed up ready to sing and dance for the judges. These students were tested on many diverse things such as stage awareness, voice quality, as well as musical talent. Mrs. Martha Chapman-Cowan, choral director, looked upon the try-outs with much anticipation. “Things have been planned for a few months for the Varsity Singers and we must get prepared for them,” said Mrs. Cowan. Some of the planned activities for Var sity Singers include a Christmas concert and a performance at the Miss Stanly County Pageant. Mrs. Cowan stated, “This year we will be performing more pop type music and less of the classical stuff.” She is expecting a good year from these singers. The 1986-87 Varsity Singers are as follows; Elizabeth Boyle, Charity Barbee, Debbie Cesare, Shannon Thomas, Lisa Huneycutt, Catherine Frick, LeAnne Mitchell, Anne Scarboro, Sally Frye, Melva Gould, Helen Wilson, Melvin Byrd, Phillip Lilly, David Campbell, John Deere, Steve Wall, and Buddy Little. Monty Sherrill Two Seniors Will Attend Seminar By LAMAR CHANCE Two seniors, Charles Grigg and Veronica Royer, have been selected to at tend Youth Involvement Day held at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in Raleigh on Oc tober 26 and 27. Youth Involvement Day is a program that is set up to get youth more familiar with the government. Students across North Carolina will be selected to attend this two-day program. On Sunday after noon, the participants will register and at tend workshops. The next day each young person will be assigned to a government official to observe and monitor that of ficial’s activities of the day. Charles is currently serving as the presi dent of the Student Council. Being an honor roll student, he holds many honors such as a National Honor Society member, graduation marshal, Governor’s School participant, a«d a Morehead nominee. Aside from his academic achievements, Charles has been a member of the varsity basketball team for two years and the ten nis team for three years. Serving as president of FBLA, Veronica is also active at Albemarle High School. She participates in the History Club. She has been an active member of both the junior varsity and varsity cheerleading squads. Outside of the school, Veronica is involved in the Stanly County 4-H Club where she has won many awards. The students at Albemarle High School congratulate Charles and Veronica on their selection to this distinguished group of North Carolinian youth! Moonbeams October 26 (Sunday)- Charles Grigg and Veronica Royer will participate in Youth Legislative Day in Raleigh. October 27-28 (Monday and Tuesday)- Teacher workdays October 29 (Wednesday)- Yoshi Kitanishi and Yoko Kitachi will present a pro gram for the Lion’s Club. November 1 (Saturday)- The SAT will be given. The band will perform in the Olympic High School Band Contest. November 3 (Monday)- Report cards November 8 (Saturday) - The band will perform in the Newton Conover Band Contest. November 10 (Monday) -OoenHouse November 11 (Tuesday)-Veteran’s Day (holiday) November 19 (Wednesday)- Senior order caps and gowns. November 27 (Thursday)- Thanksgiving (holiday) Greg Speight Open House On November 10, parents will be going back to school. This “Back to School” night is actually a chance for parents to meet their child’s teachers, learn about class expecta tions, and get an idea of the daily routine at ASHS. Parents will meet in the school auditorium at 7 p.m. Following a welcome by Mr. Morgan, principal, parents will at tend six fifteen minute classes fol lowing the schedule of their child. At the end of the night refreshments will be served in the cafeteria after the long awaited stroll down memory lane.
