V arsity Singers
Chosen
Varsity Singers in action.
By TONY BURNS
Music lovers all across our school can
now rest assured. The AHS choral depart
ment has brought together some of the
best singing talents in forming the 1986-87
Varsity Singers.
Many students showed up ready to sing
and dance for the judges. These students
were tested on many diverse things such
as stage awareness, voice quality, as well
as musical talent.
Mrs. Martha Chapman-Cowan, choral
director, looked upon the try-outs with
much anticipation. “Things have been
planned for a few months for the Varsity
Singers and we must get prepared for
them,” said Mrs. Cowan.
Some of the planned activities for Var
sity Singers include a Christmas concert
and a performance at the Miss Stanly
County Pageant. Mrs. Cowan stated, “This
year we will be performing more pop type
music and less of the classical stuff.” She
is expecting a good year from these
singers.
The 1986-87 Varsity Singers are as
follows; Elizabeth Boyle, Charity Barbee,
Debbie Cesare, Shannon Thomas, Lisa
Huneycutt, Catherine Frick, LeAnne
Mitchell, Anne Scarboro, Sally Frye,
Melva Gould, Helen Wilson, Melvin Byrd,
Phillip Lilly, David Campbell, John Deere,
Steve Wall, and Buddy Little.
