AHS’ Quiz Bowl team is off to a great start
this year. Aleshia Lowder, Marcus Ingram, Lilly
Cupino, Kevin Carter, Amy Miskell, Kendra
Whittington, Kara Blalock, and Eric Lowder,
with the guidance of their supervisor, Mrs. Grigg,
have dedicated numerous long and hard hours to
expanding their minds. Practicing every Wednes
day after school, they answered a variety of
questions and brainstormed certain subjects and
managed to learn more than they thought pos
sible. On Saturday, February 4, the Quiz Bowl
participated in a county contest at the Stanly
County Public Library. All morning, they
fought hard and thought well to come out as the
county champs. In the end, they did triumph
and received a trophy for their first place finish.
On March 18, Albemarle’s Quiz Bowl team
will travel to Concord High School to comp>ete
in another competition. Good luck to the Quiz
Bowl team members and keep the wheels of
your brain turning.

Do you wear your seatbelt whenever you are
a car? Do you think seatbelts are only neces-

lime or when you will be traveling at excessive
Speeds? Well, think again. Seat belts should be
"'Ofn at all times. It is a proven fact that most car
^ecks take place within twenty miles of the
ome. To find out just how many of their fellow
ulldogs drove safely, the BADD Club held a
Seat belt survey on students at AHS on February
Club members filled out a survery form

School as a Career:
Students Aspire to be Teachers
by Shannon Homesley
Towards the end of the school year, all seniors
who are planning on attending college search
long-and hard for any possible scholarships that
can help with college tuition. One such scholar
ship is the Teaching Fellows Scholarship. Every
year, any student who aspires to be a teacher can
apply for this scholarship. This year, Tori Wilson,
Alyson Almond, Marti Sullivan, Kevin Carter,
and Ellen Burleson all decided to apply. The first
round was to write an essay and have an in-school
interview with teachers and well known citizens
of the community. After all this strenuous work,
the applicants had to wait to be notified if they
advanced. Luckily, Kevin and Ellen received the
letternotifying them of their advancement. Then,
Kevin and Ellen traveled to Charlotte for another
interview which is the deciding factor to whether
or not they receive the scholarship. TTiey should
benotifiedby the beginning of April. If awarded
this scholarship, students will receive $20,000
total for all four years of college. To pay this
scholarship back, recipients are expected to teach
for at least four years at a state supported public
school in North Carolina. Congratulations and
good luck go out to Kevin and Ellen who want to
be our kids future teachers.
Kevin and Ellen hope to Improve educa
tion with their teaching ability.
