DECEMBER 1995 THE FULL MOON Features EDITOR : JENNIFER LOWDER PAGE 2 Christmas Spirit by Mary Nance "What do you want for Christmas?” This seems to be a popular phrase as the Christmas holidays draw closer. Many people, especially children and teenagers, anticipate waking up on Christmas morning to open their presents. However, have you ever wondered what Christmas morning would be like if there were no gifu to open or stockings to empty? A plethora of people in the world today, and yes-even in Albemarle-are happy just to have a roof over their heads on this day. Cold and hungry, their only Christmas wishes are to have shelter, food, and warmth. We do not think about these necessities when we think of the holiday season. At my church every year, we adopt a needy family at Christmas time. Therefore, we provide them with a Christmas dinner and other food items, money for heating in their house, a few gifts, and a Christmas tree. Vividly, I can recall the look on their faces when our church group came through their door that winter day. My heart filled with joy and warmth as I watched the children’s eyes light up with happiness. As the Christmas holiday approaches, we need to be more grateful for what we have and not act so selfish. Just remember this: the holidays are not only a season of recieving but also a season of giving. Rll I Want for Christmas . . . by Allison Hudson Christmas is just around the comer. Stockings are being hung, fiiiitcake is piling up, and Christmas lists are being made. Many students have a list of Christmas wishes as long as Florida. Some students have something very special in mind that they are wishing for this holiday season. These things are so special that they would setde for only it and wish for nothing else. On the other hand, a great deal of studenU want a lot more than just one thing. In fact, it was overwhelming to hear of all the wishes that students from AHS are wanting when they wake up on Christmas morning. So, if you have a list as long as Florida or a list that contains only one thing, I hope all of your Christmas wishes may come true. Here are what some of your peers are wishing for this Christmas. Alison Bueipeau - Hopes for a red Chevy truck. Kelly Rakes - Wants DJ with a big red bow wrapped around him. Johr Brooks - Wishing for world peace. But some of us here at Albemarle High School can’t relax and spend time with our family; we have to put up with “weird” relatives during the holidays. These are some of the answers I got when I asked some of the students if they had any “weird” relatives. Laura Cauble -1 have a strange relative that is the same age as my boyfriend, but he calls me a child. Stephanie Cooper - My grandmother is lacking a few marbles, and she always brings us tffesents.
