TliE PROPOSED GYM1TAISUI.I A
COIMUI'IITY CENTER OP HIGHLAITDS
There is a lot of talk about a
gymnaisum being built in Highlands
which may serve as a community
center. I think this is one of the
greatest blessings we could ever
receive*
Some people may wonder why a
gymnaisum, as a community center,
would be a blessing to our town
and to the communities that serve
it* This is the answer: In every
town thece should be a place for
the young people to meet for
recreation and entertainment. The
older people should also have &
place to meet and discuss the
problems of our town and community.
In Highlands, we have very few
places for the young people to
find suitable recreation.
Therefore, we very much need a
place of this kind and I could
think of nothing better to serve
the purpose than a gymnaisum^ Then
we will have a chance to get
together for all kinds of g^os-
well as other kinds of recreation*
There we will learn a lesson which
will help us all through life, to
cooperate with one another. We will
learn that, without cooperation
and team work, v/e'can never reach
our goals in life.
I f eel sure that our leaders and
advisors will help us take
advantage of all the opportunities
our gymnaisum will offer us. It
seems to me, therefore, that the
gymnqisum as' a community center,
will help our citizens -to be be'^ter
citizens in the future instead of
criminals, since crime is brought

about by those who have not learned
to respect others» rights,
I think it is the duty of every
one in or around Highlands to
cooperate with the ones who are
trying to raise funds for the
gymnaisum'by contributing as much
as he can.
It would be a good idea for all
of us to keep in mind that the
gymnaisum as a community center wilL
not help us unless we as individual
aid in every way possible to build
it, and even after it is built, to
cooperate in all ways to make it a
success for our town.

TI-IE PROPOSED GYJmism.! AS A
GOI.-II-IUinTY CENTER
A gymnaisum will mean much to the
city of Highlands. We have needed
such a program for years.
First of all, it will provide
wholesome recreation and entertain*-
ment for the young people. As yet,
especially in the wintertime, there
is no recreation in the daytime or
at night.
This will provide a place all
during the year. Having a place to
play ball in the winter, so that it
would be comfortable, as well for '
the ones playing as those watching,
would be a great improvement.
Not only will there be ball games
but all sotts of recreation for the
boys and girls,
A gymnaisum gives Us a chance to
practice cooperation, which is’
essential now as well as later.
It will also be well supervised
by leaders who understand young
people, and are interested in them.
This place of recreation will
be conviently located, so as not to
interfere with other people by
noise, and where people from all
