We enjoyed a recent guest in our room. Here is a story we wrote about him* A SURPRISE ’’Good morning. Miss Seayl” •'Good morning, boys and girls I Surprise! Suprisel Jack has come to spend the day with you.” **Jack who?*' "Jack Rabbiti" What an interesting guest Jack was. We hope that he will come again. Mrs. Vernon neojs SECOND GRADE NEWS We have 36 children in our room. There are 23 boys and 13 girls, Rodney Sewell came to our school from Tuscon, Arizona. We are glad to have him in our room. Shirley McKinney moved down to Lum- berton, N.G. for 18 days, but she is back with us now. We have been learning fall poems in our room. We have a large picture on our bulletin board showing some of the beautiful things to see in autumn. We have a nice terrarium with toads and a caterpillar. The caterpiller ate the plants in the terrarium. It ate the bushes and ferns, too. The second grade received three sets of phonetic work books from Mrs. Berry, We are enjoying them very much. We will get another set when we finish these. We have 25 boys and girls in our first grade. All our little people are working hard learning to read about Dick, Jane and Sally. Mary Sue has a little new baby sister. Her name is Edith Sue. Belinda with her parents and brothers spent the week-end in Alabama. Holloween will soon be here. V7e have learned two songs about Halloween. Two of our little girls, Linda and Jane are taking band lessons. Birthdays: Charlie Hicks - Sept. 9 Ervin Keener - Sept. 11 Sandra Crane - Oct. 1 Mrs* James THIRD GRADE NEWS The third grade is working hard. We have 3U in our room. Our teacher is Miss Edwards and she is nice. We have been studying seeds in our language books. We have also been making folders about Columbus Day and Halloween. We have had several students absent from sickness. We are glad to have them back. We had l6 that did not miss a day in the first six-weeks. Mrs, Brown Patti Calloway
