CLASS TRIP We left April 2i| at 11:00 p»m. We drove a!Ll night and made about 6 stpps for gas. Everyone was too excited to get much sleep. We arrived at Falls Church, Va., at 1:30 p.m. S\mday, After we checked into Falls Church Motel we sent after some hamburgers for supper. Everyone fought over who would get to use the showers first. After making calls home everyone was exhausted from the trip and turned in early that nightl Monday morning we; had our first sight of Washington, D.C. The Capitol was one of the first buildings we spotted. We found that parking the bus was going to be one of our biggest problems. The Smithsonian Institution was the first thing we visited, and we spent the whole day there, I don^t think any of us had ever been in such an interesting place. We headed back to Falls Church before " U:00 so as not to get caught in the rush hour. That night we ate at The ^pollo restaurant which was right below the motel. After eating we decidedl try the bowling alley that was across the street, Tuesday morning after eating breakfast, we visited the Capitol, We; went on a very interesting tour and learned many things. Next we took a vote on who wanted to sit in on a session of Congress, The few that did wwii-o irjr Goaoh Bennett and the rest went to the monument with I'lr, and Mrs, Talley. We were impreasod with the proooodings of Congress, and espooially were in awe of Carl Albert. After spending some time there we met the rest of our members at the monument. We were disappointed to find that they no longer a]lowed anyone uso the stairs on aocount of health hazards. We were able to see most of the places we wanted to visit from the top of the monument. Once again we tried to get out of Washington before the rush hour. Everyone had had so much fun bowling the night before that we decided to tyy our luck at it again. Wednesday morning we had breakfast at a small restaurant in Virginia. We were all a little shocked to be served french fries with our eggs instead of hash browns. We snent most of the day at the national zoo. Next we boarded tourmobiles to see Arlington Cemetery. Robert E. Lee's house is also at Arlin gton, Realizing that x-:e only had two more days left we decided to forget about the rush hour and visit the Lincoln Memorial. VJe didn’t get back to the motel mtil 7:00 p.m. Thursday was a very hectic morning with everyone dressing up in leisure suits and dresses. This was the day we had our picture taken in front of the Capitol. Coach Bennett was really on his toes this day from the looks of our picture. He was everywhere! Mount Vernon was the next stop on our schedule, George Washington’s home was beautiful, and the home still had a lot of his original furniture. We were able to see the bed that this great man died on.
