What a saddening sight to see.' Here is its life story, as it was told to me. "I was leading a very active life here in my new home; the West High Gym. Something was taking place on me almost all the time. However, after a few short weeks or months, I don't remember just when, my beautiful boards started to curl. Curling is fine i.C'or a girl’s hair but cer tainly not for me. Soon I began to sense roughness as boys and girls played on me. ^his was not so bad ontil some men started tearing me open. To dis grace me even more, they tore out som© of my con crete foundation.! listen ed carefully and heard ihem say that a hot water pipe had taken a short cut underneath me and sometime in the past had burst. I feel so insecuxe and conscience stricken for I sure hate to disappoint everyone here at West. This means no more basket-* ball ga:nes here this ye«j.r. I feel that because of xaa the seniors mil not get to enjoy this new building to the fullest. An insurance company is investigating me at present* They say that I will be re placed entirely from the slabs up by a brand new floor♦ My owners hope to get started replacing me by the first of February.Tliis replacement r*iay tal^;e a very long time. Althou^ the ab-- sences are already decrea sing, there are still many students out of school. The effects of these absences will not be known until the end of the year. We might lose a teacher next year because of this. Students who have flu or the symptoms of said For the past few years Montgomery County has re presented North Carolina at the Southern Safety Con ference. The Southern Safety Con ference is divided into four groups: Home, Farm School, and Traffic Safety. Each group discusses how to promote safety in various places. This • year Montgomery County is sending ten stu dents to Little Rock, Ar kansas. All ten of these students have veiylnportarfc positions to fill at the Southern Safety Conference which is the first week of March. Five of these stu dents are from West Mont gomery. They are as follows: Marie Thompson, who will serve as Recorder for Ssfc^odL Safety; Mike Douglas, who will serve as Leader in School Safety;Douglas Byrd, who will serve aj Leader in Farm Safety;E. T.
