Of course everyone Is
wondering about the gym
floor. Lying there with
its boards warped. What a
saddening sight to see.'
Here is its life story, as
it was told to me.
"I was leading a very
active life here in my new
home; the West High Gym.
Something was taking place
on me almost all the time.
However, after a few short
weeks or months, I don't
remember just when, my
beautiful boards started
to curl. Curling is fine
i.C'or a girl’s hair but cer
tainly not for me. Soon I
began to sense roughness
as boys and girls played
on me. ^his was not so bad
ontil some men started
tearing me open. To dis
grace me even more, they
tore out som© of my con
crete foundation.! listen
ed carefully and heard ihem
say that a hot water pipe
had taken a short cut
underneath me and sometime
in the past had burst.
I feel so insecuxe and
conscience stricken for
I sure hate to disappoint
everyone here at West.
This means no more basket-*
ball ga:nes here this ye«j.r.
I feel that because of xaa
the seniors mil not get to
enjoy this new building to
the fullest.
An insurance company is
investigating me at present*
They say that I will be re
placed entirely from the
slabs up by a brand new
floor♦ My owners hope to
get started replacing me by
the first of February.Tliis
replacement r*iay tal^;e a very
long time. "Hovsver, on')
January 17, compaiiies fetart
ed to Kake bids for the job
of replacing me.
I am sorry that I have
disappointed you,and I want
to leave you with a word.
Let’s not worry about Bas
ketball season but hope
that the floor is fixed for
graduation.
