Those students who have
been neither tardy nor ab
sent and who have main
tained good averages for
the first semester are en
titled to cuts. These
cuts may be used for one,
two, or three days,
depending upon the
student'*s average. For an
overall average of A-
three cuts are given, for
a B average two cuts are
given and for a C average
one cut is given. These
earned cuts may be used
only during the second
semester. However, these
earned cuts will not be
counted against a student
who is working toward cuts
for the first semester of
the following school year.
^11 non-cut absences will
go down on the student ^ s
record and will result in
his being ineligible for
iarned cuts during the
following terms.
These cuts should be an

to visit Washington, D.C.,
April 12 through April 16.
If as many as thirty stu
dents are interested in
going to Washington, ar

Harris for those planning
to do so.
The Seniors will meet
the chartered buses at
West Montgomery at 6:30
A. M,, Thursday, April 12.
Two chaperons will accom
pany the group. The total
cost of the trip is $42.

Marion Nash Dorsett has
been named as a finalist
in the National Merit Scho
larship Contest. This is
a distinction won by few
students in the nation.
Marion will enter Duke
University in September
where she will major in
psychology.
In January of this year.
Coaches of the five teams
composing the Central Tar
heel Conference voted for
outstanding performers on
the other teams. (A Coach
could not vote for his own
player,) Voting was done
by positions with the 22
finalists (2 per position)
chosen as a11-conference
players for the 1962 foot
ball season. From West
Montgomery, Johnny *'Moon”
Harris, fullback; Michael
Harvell, guard; and Frank
Crump, tackle; won berths
on the all-conference team.
West finished fourth out
of five teams in the con
ference this year with a
2-7-1 overall record and a
1-2-1 conference record,
Siler City and Rohanen, who
finished 1,2 in the con
ference placed 6 men each
on the all-star team. Third
place Randleman won 5
berths while West Mon;^gom-
ery and East . Montgomery
each placed 3 men. There
were 23 final All-ccsr»fer-
ence players instead of the
\isual 22 due to a tie. Bill
Charlton of Siler City was
named coach of the year.
