Someone has said today's chi Id, when
asked his ambition, will reply "to be
happy." Once the answer would have.been
"to be worth something." Our generation
has got the happiness bug. There is al
ways the fairy tale that ended happily
ever after. But there are no fairies,no
magic, and no sudden "curo-allo,"
People have yet to learn that in work
ing directly at being happy one defeats
his purpose.Happiness is elusive. Those
who try too hard will surely find it al
ways beyond reach.Success comes only when
self is forgotten.In giving whole-heart
edly to ethers,the immature become mature;
the self-conscious become outgoing, the
shackled become free, and the unhappy be
come contented.

"Wat cha’doin’?"
"Nothin’"
"Me neither."
"Wat cha gonna be?"
"D’Know." ■
"Me neither."
Abo . could well be conversation a-
mong teen-agers of- today. We,
"me neither’s",whether we like it or net,
are the future leaders of tomorrow. Do
we like to admit to ourselves that some
day we’ll be telling our own kids to eat
their beans and wash behind their ears?
'Course not I Because if we did face
these facts, they might tend to inter
rupt a good night’s sleep, an afternoon
movie, or a Saturday night ride with the
crowd.
"I’ll think about it tomorrow" may
have worked for Scarlet O’Hara, but see
"how far that slogan would take you today
—back a few blocks probably. The future
isn’t just a tense of the verb, you know.
It’s what makes tomorrow suddenly today.
And...to get there successfully in this
rat-race world, one must be able to cope
with and combat the guerrilla warfare of
today's Complex society.* One must set
his own goals and standards. Then the
long street leading to these must be
paved with trials, errors, hardships and
successes.
All of this futurama dra;ma is easier
composed than acted out. For you to wake
up one morning with a brain full of know
ledge, experience, and a secure future,
is something more than your fairy god
mother can muster—so,"get on the stick"
and plan, prepare, and proceed into, the
future.
The more we love our friends, the
we flatter them; it is by excusing
ing that pure love shows itself.
