More than a century ago,
Alex de Tocqueville, the
brilliant French political
philosopher, while on a
visit to Ainerica, fore
warned of Tihe present day
state of affairs when he
wrote the following de
scription of the welfare
state;
"It provides for their
security, supplies their
necessities, directs their
industry and subdivides
their inheritance,.,what
remains,,.but to spare
them all the care of think
ing and the trouble of
living?
”Tlie will of men is not
shattered but softened,
bent and guided. Men ai^
seldor.i forced by it to
act,' but they are con
st 0ntly restrained from
acting. Such a power does
not destroy, but prevents
existence. It compresses,
anervates, extingushes and
3tupefies a people, until
iach nation is reduced to
timid animals,of v/hich the
government is the shep-
lerd." (end of quote) Alex
de Tocqueville wrote this
d long time before Karl
Marx was ever heard of...
but this is exactly the
aim of conimunism.., to re
duce man from a proud
being in the image of his
creator.,»to a timid ani
mal in the need of a sh«5p-
Aord, The aim of commu
nism... is accomplished by
the means of a welfare
state..,and in America, we
are well on the road.
Here, we think is the
most opportune time to
bring you "The Creed of
Every True American Patri
ot" as written by Dean
Alfange.
"I do not choose to be
a common man. It is my
right to be uncommon...if
I can. I seek opportunity
...not security. I do not
wish to be a kept citizen,
humbled and dulled by hav
ing the State look after
me. I want to take the
calculated risk to dream
and to build, to fail and
to succeed, I refuse to
barter incentive for a
dole. I prefer the chal
lenges of life to -the
guaranteed existence; the
thrill of fulfillment to
the stale calm of Utopia,
"I will not trade free
dom for beneficence, nor
my dignity for a handout.
I v.'ill never cower before
any master,nor bend to any
threat. It is my heritage
to stand erect, proud, and
unafraid; to think and act
for my,self, to enjoy the
benefit of my creations,
and to face the world
boldly and say, this I
have done,
"All this is what it
means to be an American."
And to this we will only
add just one thing.a
question mark. Is this
