II lJ March 21, 1963 No. 5 L r\ \ EFR u Thursday,March 1^,1963, the fourth annual Career Day -was held for all tenth., grade students of the West Montgomery and the East Montgomery High Schools. Held at the Trinity Metho dist Church in Troy, the program continued from 8:50 a.u. until 12:30 p.ri. Each of the students from West heard a discus sion concerning three dif ferent vocations which in terested him. All tenth ijrade students indicated a survey the vocations vhere interest was wide spread. The discussion .groups were led by busi ness and professional men -Liii Kb '1 List 1- f 1 d Marion Borsett, member of the West Montgomery senior class, has been selected as a finalist in the Angier B. Duke Memori al Scholarship. She will spend two days, March 20th and 21st, at Duke Univer sity. Special ' events arc planned for each finalist. There will be several small seminars in which she will participate. active in the different fields. It is hoped that this program will be a help to all tenth grade students in the choice of .’a high school course. Members of East and West Montgomery Future Teachers club^ hosted the group. Miss Celia Brown is the sponsor of the West Montgomery club and the East Montgomery club is sponsored by f4rs. Betty Lou Kellis, I'-larion Dorsett, presi dent of the West Future Teachers* club, presided at the assembly. Saujiders a~t r - QStU,)^ Larry Saunders was one of the six students in our state to attend the North Carolina Junior Science and Hunianities Symposium. The Syraposium was held March 1^ and 15, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It gave all students attend ing the opportunity to hear lectures by i4i*ofoGr*or« from all over the state and country, and to visit the laboratories at the University of North Carolina. In order to qiialify, Larry had to write an ab stract paper to be sub mitted in rough draft in Januaiy. Other require ments included a personal interview and the paper rewritten in final fom by February. SEASON t. ■EEUIK Coach Fred Brady an nounced that hS boys re ported for baseball drills which began last week. He stated that the squad would be cut early this week and that I8 to 20 boys would bo carried on the varsity. Tliere will be a junior varsity super vised by Coach Bill Merritt. Brady said that the J.V.'s and the varsity would practice jointly as long as possible but that Merritt would take charge at all J. V. games. The work, which was beg-un in doors due to bad weather, consisted primarily of running and throwing. The Warriors open Friday a- gainst Sycnith St/mley at Norwood in a non-fionfer- ence r.iat.'Ch.
