The Jordan-Matthews Phantoms advanced to the state play offs at Winston-Salem, where they were defeated by Stedman in the opening round Wednesday - night, 60-48, Central Tar Heel and Little 7 Conference teams participated in the affair at Oherryville. HI_ Y The Hi-Y ciub has had for its programs a number of speakers who have ilJMDERWAy Track practice got underway last week under the direction of Coach Alan White. Eighteen boys reported and are condition' ing themselves for the first meet, scheduled for March 27 at West Montgom ery against Rohanen, The West track and field is not yet in shape but work was scheduled to start this week and it is expected to be ready in time. Events this year will include the 50, 100 and 220 yd. dashes, 4M-0, 880, and mile runs, high jump, broad jump,shot put, discus throw, and various relays. Positions have not yet ^been determined. Another speaker was Mr. Jesse Capel of Troy, who presented a pi'o- gram of art. The Hi-Y club is^ now selling mints in order to raise money for the Hi-Y fund. The North Carolina stu dent delegates to the South ern Safety Conference held in Jackson, Mississippi Wei re all from Montgomery County, It was held March 3-5. Cox, "Farm Safety Dis cussion"; Sam McCall, "School Safety Workshop"; Tammy Scarborough, "Rec reational Safety Workshop"; Kerry Allen, "Recreational Safety"; Nolan Saunders, Moderator at the General Session Safety Discussion; Edward McCallum,"Outstand ing Safety Projects in Montgomery County Schools"; Beth McCaskill, Panel Mem ber of Home Safety Dis cussion; and Phillip Tucker, "Farm Safety," S, H, Helton was Adult Advisor for Recreational Safety group. FBLA - The F.B.L.A. held its March meeting on Monday night, March.11, in the business department. Mrs. Phyllis Parks, a former business student at West told the club members about her work in an office. Ten of the. club mem bers are.planning; to at tend the state convention to be held in Durham from March 29^31. Tours and exhibits are scheduled and state officers will be elected', during this ^ime, Congratulations to Coa^h VJhite for being named Coach of the Year.
