May 29, seventy-six sen iors will receive their (iiplomas. The president of the senior class, ^ Johnny Karris, will introduce the :our honor students who vill speak on the theme ^We Face the Future." The four honor speakers this year are Marion Dorsett, /nn Saunders, Liz Dickens, Mr, T, L, White an- Dounced Tuesday, May 21, that the marshals for the commencement exercises- this year have been chosen, "^hey .re all juniors and were chosen on the basis Qf scholarship. They will serve as ushers at both :he Baccalaureate Service and at the graduating ex- et'iises. The marshals chosen are' ^s follows: Fatricia Me Loud, chief; Carol Ann Newsom, Becky Birckhead, larry Saunders, Marsha Armstrong, Ellen Highsmith, and Gene Pridgen. and Nancy Helen Bruton, The Rev, Paul Edwards, Pastor of Trinity Met|iodist Church in Troy, will' give the invocation and the West Montgomery Chorus will sing "Now Is the Hour." Followiftg the speeches, Mr, White, principal of the school, and Mr, John Cole,chairman of the local school board, will award the diplomas. Ten new members have been invited to join the Beta Club, These students have an over-all high school average of at least 92 with no grade below an 85, The faculty,"Mr, White, and Beta members approved the following students ac cording to the three qual ifications — scholarship, character, and leadership: Helen Robinson, Brenda Birckhead, Polly | Ingram, Barna Farrell, Betty Sue Bruton, Rodney Britan, Mary Sue McRae, Karen Andrews, Doris Lilly, and Dotty Lilly. A foriLal installation ceremony will take place al: the beginning of next school year. At tViat time Beta officers will be elected, also. The following seniors have been awarded scholar ships: John Hodge, Univer sity of North Carolina; Benny Crepps,State College, Sears Roebuck scholarship; and Liz Dickens, Meredith College, Freshman scholar- / ship. All the scholarships were based on outstanding scholastic achievement, leadership ability,partic ipation in community and school activities, depend ability and promise of success.
