Page 15 CHILDREN* The Warriors .traveled tor Winatoh Salem on September 6 to do battle with the Fighting Methodists of Children's Home. It was the opening game for both teams. Children's Home struck first blood with two touchdowns in the second quarter, and at half-time had a 13--0 lead. The Warriors came back in the second half holding Children’s Home to only one touchdown (an intercepted pass) while they opened the '63 scoring col- Lim with a 55 yard scamper to pay dirt by Gene Pridgen. The game ended with tne score: Children's Home 19—West 6. TABOR CITY DENTON West's second encounter of the '63 season was with the Red Raiders of Tabor City. The Warriors were on the road again for the game was played at Tabor City. The VJarriors were soundly defeated by a very good Tabor City team 21—0. ROHANEN West's third game was with the Rohanen Rebels. It was the first home game of the season for the Warriors. The first quarter was disasterous for the Warriors with the Rebles scoring three tim^s. At half-time the score was 27-0« A very enjoyable half-time show was pre sentee by the West High Band. The sec ond half was much more of • a' ball • game than the first. West held Rohanen to nine points while the Warriors scored their first touchdown on their borne field. The score came on a one yard plunge by lAikie My rick. ^LER CITY The Warriors were on the road, for their fourth game as they traveled to Piler City to play the Phantoms of Jordan-Mathews. It was West's fx^iirth st'^aipht loss as the Warriors wei'e t;':'cuiiced to the tune of 57-0. ’ The VJ irriors played host to the Red Raiders of Denton for their annual home coming game. It was a happy homecoming for the Warriors won their first game of the season by trouching Denton 31-0. West won the toss and elected to receive the kickoff. West wasted no time in scoring after they received the ball. The Warriors drove right down the field and scored on a 30-yard gallop by Gene Pridgen. The extra point attempt failed and the s jre stood at 6-0. West's de fense he^d and forced Denton to kick. After a poor punt by Dentcai ,the Warriors drove down the field with Sammy Bailey bringing home the bacon with a one-yard plunge over left tackle. The extra point was missed again and at the end of the first qu^’rter the score was 12-0, The second quarter was again all West's. The Warriors scored 13 more points on a 9-yard pass from Charles Bruton to Gene Pridgen and on a pass interception by Ronnie Russell. Bruton ran the extra point over and at the half west led 25-0, in the second half , ■ West scored -onee more on a. 2 .yard burst over the goal line by Mykie Myrick. West's defuse held the rest of the way and the game ended with the Warriors on top 31-0. West received numerous penalities during the game *^hich cost them several scoring opportunities and two scores.
