TOURNAMENT PLAY
At the end of tKe 1963-
6^ basketball season, both
the V/arrforett03 and
Warriors entered the con
ference tournament.
The Warriorettes drew
Siler City for their first
round opponents. When the
final buzzer sounded, the
scoreboard showed that the
Warriorettes were on the
short end of the score.
Although our Warriorettes
did lose in the tournament
they did give all that
they could give in an ef
fort to win. Through the
dark gloom which accompa
nies defeat, there showed
one bright light for our
''Jarriorettes. That light
was Diane Thompson, who
xvas the first Warriorette
to make the all conference
team in West's short his
tory. This year has not
been a very successful one
in the won-lost columns,
for our Warriorettes, but
basketball if more than
just winning. Good luck
next year, girlsIII
The Warriors drew Ro-
harmen for their first foe.
Warriors came out on top
in this contest, v/inning
it by four points- 62-58.
By winning this game the
VJarriors were assured of a
berth in the finals of the
tournament.
The warriors played
Siler City for the Champ
ionship, Our boys made a
game of it until the last
few minutes, but' when it
was all over the score
read 60-U7 in favor of the
boys from Siler City. By
finishing second the V^arri-

district tournament at
North Stanly, There they
BASEBALL SEASON BEGINS
WITH A BANG
With the arrival of
spring comes America's
favorite past-time, base
ball. There is a special
reason for our Warriors to
work hard this year, for
they are defending confer
ence champs.
According to Coach Bill
Merrit, our Warriors have
a strong chance to suc
cessfully defend their
crown. The 196*+ schedule
includes sixteen games
(eight of them at night.)
There are six lettermen
returning from last years
championship team. The
only v/eakness our Warriors
have is an inexperienced
infield but, according to
- Coach Merrit, **They will
come through when they are
needed.”
With two games under
their belt it looker like
our Warriors are on their
way to another champion
ship, They defeated North
Stanly 8-7 and West End

met Stanley High School,
The V/arriors were again
defeated, this time by the
score of 58-54, The Stan
ley team beat Siler City in
the finals.
This was the bast season
that the Warriors havv5 ever
experienced. Besides win

ference, the V/arriors de
feated arch-rival East
Montgomery both times.
Congratulations on a fine
season are offered to the
coach and team.
COURAGE
What is true courage?
Many people think true
courage is having no fear.
I believe that this is
false. True courage is not
in having no fear,but con
quering fear and going on.
Other people think that
true courage is in dying a
manly death. I maintain
that true courage is not
in dying a glorious death,
but it is living a glorious
life. True courage comes
only from the heart and
can be attained only with
the help of GOD,

and Frank Sinatra.
