TOURNAMENT PLAY At the end of tKe 1963- 6^ basketball season, both the V/arrforett03 and Warriors entered the con ference tournament. The Warriorettes drew Siler City for their first round opponents. When the final buzzer sounded, the scoreboard showed that the Warriorettes were on the short end of the score. Although our Warriorettes did lose in the tournament they did give all that they could give in an ef fort to win. Through the dark gloom which accompa nies defeat, there showed one bright light for our ''Jarriorettes. That light was Diane Thompson, who xvas the first Warriorette to make the all conference team in West's short his tory. This year has not been a very successful one in the won-lost columns, for our Warriorettes, but basketball if more than just winning. Good luck next year, girlsIII The Warriors drew Ro- harmen for their first foe. Warriors came out on top in this contest, v/inning it by four points- 62-58. By winning this game the VJarriors were assured of a berth in the finals of the tournament. The warriors played Siler City for the Champ ionship, Our boys made a game of it until the last few minutes, but' when it was all over the score read 60-U7 in favor of the boys from Siler City. By finishing second the V^arri- ors earned a berth in the district tournament at North Stanly, There they BASEBALL SEASON BEGINS WITH A BANG With the arrival of spring comes America's favorite past-time, base ball. There is a special reason for our Warriors to work hard this year, for they are defending confer ence champs. According to Coach Bill Merrit, our Warriors have a strong chance to suc cessfully defend their crown. The 196*+ schedule includes sixteen games (eight of them at night.) There are six lettermen returning from last years championship team. The only v/eakness our Warriors have is an inexperienced infield but, according to - Coach Merrit, **They will come through when they are needed.” With two games under their belt it looker like our Warriors are on their way to another champion ship, They defeated North Stanly 8-7 and West End 18-3, Watch-out Central Tarheel Confernece, our Warriors are on the war path once again. met Stanley High School, The V/arriors were again defeated, this time by the score of 58-54, The Stan ley team beat Siler City in the finals. This was the bast season that the Warriors havv5 ever experienced. Besides win ning eleven games and fin ishing second in the con ference, the V/arriors de feated arch-rival East Montgomery both times. Congratulations on a fine season are offered to the coach and team. COURAGE What is true courage? Many people think true courage is having no fear. I believe that this is false. True courage is not in having no fear,but con quering fear and going on. Other people think that true courage is in dying a manly death. I maintain that true courage is not in dying a glorious death, but it is living a glorious life. True courage comes only from the heart and can be attained only with the help of GOD, (Jr.-Sr.“cont7~from pg, 1) dance team Juliet Prowse and Frank Sinatra. When the clock strikes eleven,all the tables will be adorned with pink champagne and flaming crepe suzettes. This menue v;as suggested with the help of the Home Economics Department and was approved by a committee made up by the school board, faculty, and local ministers. Free cartons of cigarettes will be on each table. When the cance ends at two o'clock, everyone is expected to adjourn to the Country Club pool for svdmming. It is hoped that fi?wimmers will v;ear bathing suits and not evening clothes. Lifeguards for this affair will be every body's favorites, Fred Kirby and Big Bill Ward. The Juniors and Seniors • will be entertained at breakfast by Mr, Thomas L, White and the West Mont gomery faculty at the home ofi.Mr. White. The Junior Class is hoping that this evening will prove to be "a night to’remember,"
