Dillard Tigers Have 9-5-0 Record By Michael Pulley The Dillard High Cagers with a 9-5-0 record will seek revenge for an earlier 87-62 defeat when they meet Darden High again February 16, in Wilson. The success of the Tigers can be explained best in the efforts of Larry Williams, Ronnie Ford, Chester Armstrong, Charles Gunter, Paul Vinson, Charles Barnes, Charles Howard and Coach R. L. Dowery. Averages leading members of the varsity are Williams 21.7, games 9; Ford 8.7, games 8; Armstrong 7.8, games 8; Gunter 7.2, games 9; Vinson 5.0, games 7; Barnes 4.8, games 4. Junior Varsity Stands 11-3-0 Junior Varsity Tigers have made a very impressive record so far with a 11-3-0 record. Harold Jolly leads the field in point standing with a 15.3 average. Complete record ofj averages follows; Harold Jolly 15.3; Ronnie Coley 11.0; Harold Smith 10.9; William Crawford 8.6; Fred Hicks 5.5; Sam Booth 5.2 and Jerry Raynor 3.1 average for the three games he has played. Vocational Survey Show Plans Of Seniors By Queen Esther Wiggs A recent survey to determine the various vocations Dillard seniors plan to enter upon fin ishing college has been conduct ed by Queen E. Wiggs, a senior. The survey shows that some of the seniors have definite plans for the future. Thirteen seniors plan to join the Armed Forces upon gradu ation. The others in descending order as follows; Secretary-10; Social worker-7; Musicians-5; Elementary-4; Mathematicians- 4; Brick Layer-4; Beauty Ope rator-3; Mechanical Engineer-3; Airline Stewardess-3; Nursing- 3; Sociologists-3; Typists-3; Sec ondary teacher-3; Home Eco nomics teacher-2; Psychitrist-2; Designer-2; Interior Decorator- 2; Physical Education teacher-2; Building Contractor-2; Barber- 2; Electronical Engineer-1; Law yer-1; Carpenter-1; Athletic Coach-1; Writer-1; Pharmacists- 1; Bookkeeper-1; College teach er-1; and Physical Education teacher-1. PATROL AT WORK Students around Dillard who try to maintain order and dis cipline constitute the student patrol. They patrol the down stairs and upstairs halls and the cafeteria, and assist teachers in assembly programs in keeping order. The captains of the squads are; Downstairs, Alben Barkley and Janie Garrett. The Cafeteria squad is headed by Clayton Harris and Edna Britt. Other members of the patrol include; Edna Borden, Patricia Smith, Ann Best, Janice Alston, Inez Bryant, La Eula Davis, Marion Howell, Jerry Jones, Rossie Daniels, Linda Lewis, ''lyde Lynn, Sheri Grey, De es Stallings, Annie Benton, ’na Moore, Gilbert Johnson, Spruil, Charles Lane, ' S w i n s o n, and Lola Operation Smokeless Begins At Dillard The Student Council has made an all out campaign against smoking as one of its projects for the year. Posters have been placed in the halls. The posters are designed with such words as “Us Dillardites would rather fight than smoke.” The president of the Student Council has appointed a commit tee to set up plans for the ope ration. LaForest Ford heads this committee. Other committee members are Janet Whitfield, James Dixon and Ronald Dortch. CHARLES HOWARD Howard Selected To Play In Annual Shrine Bowl Game By Michael Pulley Charles Howard a Dillard senior, was voted the most out standing player to represent Dil lard in the annual Shrine Bowl between Eastern and Western All-stars played in Durham, December 5. Howard, a senior and four year veteran, played as line backer for the Eastern team. He has played such positions as halfback, linebacker, and end for Dillard and according to coach Elliot is the most ver satile Tiger. The Western team battered the East 28-12. The West also swapped the East in last year’s game. After graduation Charles plans to go to college and major in Physical Education. He also participates in basketball, base ball, and table tennis. He was chosen as the All- Eastern player. This is some thing new for this year. Commenting on Dillard’s un successful season of no wins and all loses, Howard said, “we just couldn’t get together.” Howard is the son of Mr. and Home Economics Dept. Presents Fashion Show Many parents and friends wit nessed the second annual fashion show presented by the home economics department January 21, as a feature of the Dillard P. T. A. ' Garments were made and modeled by both girls and boys. The proud winners were; Doris Taylor - a two piece suit; Cyn thia Blount - a shift; LeMira White - jumper and blouse; Home Economic I - Helen Lewis, two-piece dress; Agnes Batts, slack suit and Shirley Locklair, a dress. Home Economic II - Mable Lewis, three-piece suit; Sarah Spicer, a two-piece dress; and Sandra Durante, a shift. Home Economic III. Representing the boys were; Douglas Harper, a jacket; Jim my Stokes, a parker jacket and Melvin Horner, a vest. Judges Were Mrs. Thelma Branch, Home Economic teach-' er at Central and Miss Gwendo lyn Crawford, a Dillard senior. The fashion show was spon sored by Belk-Tyler Store and presented annually by the home economic department under the supervision of Mrs. Eliza S. Jones and Miss O. Douglas. Dillard Junior Crowned ‘^‘^Miss Cinderella” Gwendolyn Josey, a Dillard Junior, was crowned “Miss Cinderella” for 1965 at the an nual Cinderella Ball December 4. Many young ladies from Car ver High School and Central witnessed the crowning by An nette Dawson, last year’s queen, and were introduced to society on this occasion. The affair is sponsored an nually by the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and was held this year in Dillard High School's gym. Special Course Offered For Talented At Dillard High School Ninety Dillard students, se lected on the basic of scores re ceived on tests, make up the new English Classes now offer ed at Dillard. There are 22 seniors, 15 juniors, 30 sopho mores and 23 freshmen in the course.
