Safety Patrol Has Busy Season “Use the other door!” “Clear the halls, please.” These are the orders heard frequently on the corridors at D. H. S. The safety patrol at D. H. S. gives its time and efforts to keeping halls cafeteria, and grounds clear of traffic conflict. Many of the members are ranked and given special “beats.” Captains: Alben Barkley, Lola Jones, Janie Garrett, Edna Britt, Clayton Harris and William Lynn. Lieutenants: Cheryl Gray. Choral Club News The Dillard Choral Club is rounding out a busy season as preparations are being made for the Spring Concert to be given May 5. The 140 voice group has sung for assembly and special programs sponsored by the school and community organiza tions. The Spring Concert will include classical, sacred, mod ern, spiritual, popular and nov elty numbers. The program will feature the Mixed Chorus, Girls Choir, Senior soprano Sandra Durante, and the Male Ensem ble. Seventy-five choral members participated in the District Mu sic Festival held at Speight High School in Wilson County, April 7th. The group received a rating of “1” for three entries which were: “Create in Me a Clean Heart, O God.”—^Mueller (Mixed Chorus), “How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place”—Brahms (Girls Choir), and “Let Us Break Bread Together” — arr. Ryder (Male Ensemble). The Mixed Chorus also received a “2” for “Zum Schluss” (“To Close”) by Brahms. These excellent ratings made the group eligible to at tend the State Music Festival at North Carolina College in Dur ham, April 30th. On May i2, a Senior Vocal Recital will be presented by Sandra Durante, Elizabeth Mar tin, Daniel Clark and Herbert Braswell. These Vocalists have been outstanding for their work throughout the year on pro grams including the Omega Tal ent Hunt and the Music Festival. Sandra and Daniel will perform at the State Music Festival. The choral director, Mrs. E. L. SENIOR CLASS GIFTS One of the projects of a senior class at Dillard each year is to make plans and present the school so soon to be their Alma Mater, a gift. The gift of the present senior class is a blue and gold electric bulletin board which will be erected by members of the class on the northside of the campus. This announcement was made earlier in the year. The class gift for 1964 was gold concert curtains which were installed at a cost of $231.25 in time for commence ment activities last June. Juniors Take Tops In ^^Down Town” Performance On the morning of March 27, the juniors were very happy, about the outcome of their an nual production, “Down Town” presented at Dillard March 26. As a form of entertainment and as a class project to re- plinish the class treasury, the performance was outstanding. The spectacular musical cast’s selections included numbers from the band, vocal selections, and popular dances with an add ed attraction, “Two Mystery Notes” by Mrs. M. F. Wright.
