Everybody is bogimiiiig to roaii2c'

The “caterpillar” and tho “fevris

The continued springtime doesn’t
seem to make anybody mad—it only
saves some “Daddies’ ” pocket-books
because “if winter eonies” the pur
chase of a fur bedceked coat is in
evitable.
The world is a largo placc—bur
it's round just tiie same, as Avas

Tho Ralc-igh Community Chest

Meredith students who responded

Tho Community Chest is a good
cause and deserves tlie attention nf
every organization.
The Carolinkm hit the nail on
the heal exactly with this idea.
Isn’t it grand that students can spt-
tie down and l)c natural and it isn’t
necessary to make an effort to ap
pear pretty, original or talented,
Statistics for the Annual have been
taken.
Since the proofs of some of the
pictures for the Annual liave re
turned, some girls seem to have de
cided that they have been mistaken
in some respects. A good chance to
see yourself as others sod you—
maybe.
Some fortunate or unfortunale
students have added another experi
ence by the simple act of registering
in the State’s interest. Twenty-Oiie
is only throe times seven!
Because of the imiportance at
tached to the N. C. C. P. A. wiiich
meets this week and for various
other reasons Stunt Night, whicii
annually occurs on the first Satur
day night in Is^’ovember, has beer
postponed until JJ’ovember 15. All
set—now the fun begins.
Ilanowe’eu passes almost un
noticed at Mereditii, and yet there
is a thrill about the rite that oni?
can’t get away from. Watch out
for the spooks and ghosts, because
you never can tell even in the best
of regulated colleges.
The end of tho mouth of October
is the end of some pleasant experi
ences, but with the coming of No
vember comes Thanksgiving and n
valued nearness to Christmas.
As the leaves fall from the trees
there is a certain melancholy sc-n-
sation, but there’s two sides to every
fiuestiou—the world outside is more
visible to the occupants of the i’ol-
loge dwellings.
iliss White, the matron, every
montli makes a list of the rooms
which deserve special mention for
good order. The girls deserve spe
cial credit for properly kept rooms.
The list this month is not as long
as it might be. "Why not have n
li.'^t of every room on the campus?
“Cleanliness is next to godliness.”
It seems that tho students forget
that the Twig is “the ofRcial orgaii
of the student body” thereby mak
ing every student morally responsi-
lile for tho success of its columns.
It is absolutely impossible for the
staff to write all tho news and mate
rial for the Twi;, justifiably. Tiw
material must be a part of the stu-
lent body. Wheu tho day dawns
tiiat ilercditli students realize that
it is an individual matter there will
necessarily be rejoicing on the part
of some concerned. If anything is
worth doing it is worth doing well.
If students are not willing to co
operate to make their undertakings
successful then it is time to diseon-
tinue.
“Proci’astination is the thief of
time”—yes, and there’s some very
good time stolen. Why should
things he put off when they can bo
just as easily accomplished at th!
appoiiited time? Procrastination is
a poor h:il)it and should not bo in
tlie ca tegory of students’ qualities.
'J'lierc’s no rest for tlio weary—
and yet tlier'’.s lots of fun in being
one of the multitiule of tho -veary.
Kvery one is busy trying to make
the second month count for more

It is the time when graves do yawn
And black cats scurry 'round
With dreadful green eyes all aglow,
Without the slightest sound.
Wide grinning l^ery faces shine
Upon each wall and post
When Jack O' Lantern meets your eye
You’ll wish you’d seen a ghost.
Black witches flit through scary dark—
You'll see them all about.

REV. SULLIVAN SPEAKS
IN CHAPEL SERVICE
WlLMING'fON I'ASTOK ADDUESSES
FACULTY AND STUDENT BODY
On October 17, Meredith students
and faculty had the privilege of hear
ing Rev. J. A. Sullivan, pastor of Cal
vary Baptist Church, Wilmington, N,
C., conduct the chapel devotlonals.
One cannot spend much time in Wil
mington without realizing that Mr.
Sullivan is not only pastor of Calvary
Baptist Church, but of all Wilmington,
for he is ever present when a com
forter or worker is needed and he is
known and loved by all.
Mr. Sullivan read the 19th Psalm,
after which he made a prayer. The
subject of his talk was Comradeship,
a theme which appeals especially to
college students. We were made to
realize that going away to college
means a severing of home ties for
a while which is hard for the ones left
as well as for those leaving. Mr,
Sullivan spoke of the letters which a
girl preparing to enter Meredith re
ceives in the summer from old Mere
dith girls and how the interest of that
girl is quickened and the heart is
gladdened. He said that when the
girls go out from Meredith they enter
many different walks of life but that
bond of friendship formed in collcge
days is not broken and the comrades
made then remain true throughout
life.
than the first one did. Every cloud
has a silver lining—so stick in there
and fight.
