There arc five cjpics iu our suite.) We hear that tho hist faculty meeting was over flooded with peti tions from girls wishing to change their classes. You see, the base ball season will soon begin. While the blanket of snow that fell last Saturday did help to make tho canipus lovely, it can’t be said that it increased tho attendance at tlie Phi play. Have you heard any of the Sen- ors say that they “just can’t wait?” That’s silly, because waiting is really all they can do! Prom what we know of the job of Student Goveriiiucut President, it isn’t one that is entered into with a light, care-free heart. And so, we offer to Gladys Cox, the uewly elec ted Student Government President for the year 192C-27, along with oni‘ congratulations and best wishes for the work, our sympathy. But she won’t need it if she is accorded the sujiport and cooperation of every member of the student body. •\nd the way for her to have this is for each one to begin at once to make it really self-government. It is U]) fo the Seniors, os well as the rc->«r of the classes, to fall iu line. Anl if this is done, next year’s freshmen will find it easier than any chi.ss i)eforo to become adjusted to tlieir n‘w environment. Wo are glad tliat characti'i'istic quotations are not to he used in the Oak Licavks this year. We have alway.s had a hori'or of “lie good, sweet maid, and let who will be clever.” -V number of the college publiea- tions are carrying ads for men at Junior-Senior banquets, and the like. That I’CJninds us that it would l)c a good lime foi' sonu- entevjjris- ing stud{-nf here to form a corpora tion witli various niember.s of the opposite Htix. Wo hear that a certain Senior, wlien approaclied for an order for new enlling cai'ds replied, '‘No tluink you, I already have all that I eau use with Miss on them.” The Carolina Jjiircanccr wishes us to call attention to the approach of the “Girls’ Number.” Informa- tioti can be obtained from the We wislj we could wait until after ihi- Stnch-nt elections of the remain ing major oifieers before we get out this issne of TirK Twrii. But it can’t be. Soon we arc going to turn il ovei- to a nice new staif. ^We hope they will luive more money and nioi-e news than we hove had. We also liope that the one who will be rc‘s|)onsil)le for this column will liave a sense of—well, whatever it is tliat makes you have deep fhdughts, and noldc ideas and ideals to place before the reader. But you have borne with us, Gentle Reader, and some few fimes you havt* agreed with our foolisluK'SS. STUDENT OPINION New Meredith Is growing! Tiie buildings are being completed, the campus is being made more beautiful, and everything Is beginning to look more like Meredith. Every day we see some new attraction added; If It’s not shrubbery for the campus, then it’s some inside attraction. However, there is one thing we seem to have forgotten, our college athlctics. Why can't we put the same spirit and work Into athletics as we have Into these other things? Certainly there Is nothing of more importance to our college life than recreation and physical training which we can get only through such sports as basketball, tennis, and bas^ ball. Of course wp, are going to have our basketball and tennis courts ready for play before long but while we are doing this we want to get the girls interested. We want to see every girl who has ever played ball, or who Is interested in athletics whether she knows how to play or not, come out and take a part, Our large campus has enabled us to add a new sport— baseball, and when the weather be comes more suitable and we are able to complete the diamond, we want to see a large crowd of girls try out for baseball. It will not be long before the basket ball games will be played off. Are you going to stand aside and see your team lose? Probably you could help win, even though you don’t play, by com ing out and boosting your class team. Let’s come out and boost and see ft’ho’s going to win the cup. AKU SOi\«!S FOU JiliW SIliltUDrrJt Girls, at last we have enough space to make as much noise as we would lilie, without protest from near neigh bors—so why not make the most of our opportunity? Let’s just yell and sing and sing and yell ’till we have the country far and wide resounding. Along with all our new buildings, new furniture and every tiling we have some new songs lurnishGd for us by our own classes and now it is our duty to sing tlieni as songs of their worth should be sung. I know you’ll put np the plea, why learn tlium?— we luive no occasion on' which to sing them, Now don’t you worry! Just leant the songs and we’ll furnish the occasion. Tiie praise to be given to the classes winning in the song contest has been too long delayed—due to the fact of delayed publication, exams and then a “little neglect": but the saying Is “better late than never,” so we want to give them their due praise now. Coming out lirst in the contest and writing the best song, words and music, out of eight was tho Sopho more class of ’28, Let's give fifteen Rahs for the Sophs! The words of the song which won them such fame are as follows: I Mereditli, Meredith College that we’ll love always Oh, Meredith, Meredith Wo'll honor all our days. For every day that dawns and sets we’ll see You in a greater magnity So now we give, what we owe Our hearts to Meredith. II Meredith, Meredith Within your doors we treasure find Of greater hope, treasures new, And many friends and kind You guide for us our wandering step of youth From daricest error to the tenth So now we give, what we owe Our hearts to Meredith. Ill Meredith, Meredith We will do the best we can To uphold, spotless white, your honor to the land. We owe the very best that’s In us to Our own dear Alma Mater true So now we’ll live all of our lives To honor Meredith, Their sister class, the Seniors of '26 came out winning second place and now again fifteen Rahs for the Seniors! Here's the song which won for them this title: You’re the queen of our hearts, Alma Mater, You hold a place that no other can All, Each year in passing has bound us. And brought us closer still. Like the sun in the east wlien ’tis rising, A new day Is dawning for thee— Through the sunshine and tears Of our dear college years— You’re the queen of our hearts, Alma Mater. The Freshmen won third place with the following song: Meredith, old Meredith We all love you And we realize just what we owe to you A debt tliat we can never pay But we hope in some small way Just to show that we are true And we all love you. Now, I’m sure with all these fine songs that each and every girl will be "anxious” to learn them. AN ESSAY ON PANTS Pants are made for men and not for women. Women are made for men and not for pants. When a man pants for a woman and a woman pants for a man, we have a pair of pants; such pants do not last. There have been many mistakes made about pants; such mistakes are called breeches of promise. Pants are like molasses, thinner in hot weather and thicker iu cold weather. There has been much discussion as to whether “pants” is singular or plural. When a man wears l>ants, it is plural; when be does not it is singular. If a man goes on a tear in his pants, that’s all right; but when his pants go on a tear, that’s all wrong. If you want to make your pants last, make your coat first. “All the polishing In the world seeips to make you harder,” said the buffer to the uall.
