C. lOTAL MEETING OF MEUEDITH ALUMXAB or B(JA>OKB ASSOCIA'flON Scotland I^eck, Dec. 9. The alum nae of Meredith College of tlie Roan oke Association enjoyed a most de lightful banquet here Friday evening, Dec. In spite of the unfavorable weather there were forty present, cars coming from Qreenvlllo, Nashville, and Stantonsburg. Mrs. Leon Vaughn of Nashville presided in her usual charm ing manner and with her ready wit kept the meeting from becoming dull for a moment. After the delicious four course dinner was served she Intro duced the speakers of the evening. First on the program was '‘Remin iscences of Meredith College," by Mrs. R. C. Josey, Sr., of Scotland Neck, who was a member of the faculty the first year the collcgo opened. The inci dents she described, apparently at random, were both amusing and sad and yet through It all one could catch a vision of the love and sacrilice that were built Into the very foundations of the college In those first years. Mrs. .losey was followed by Mrs. Justice Everett of Greenville, wlio spoke feelingly on “What Meredith has meant to me.” Any one who does not appreciate the influence that Meredith exerts over Us students should have heard Mrs. Everett. All who heard her pledged themaelvea anew to love and support their Alma Mater. After this talk those from Green ville gave an amusing stunt that was enjoyed by all. Tills was followed by a talk on “What we can Do for Mere dith,” by Mrs. Leslie Greene Chamblee from Nashville. Her talk was very in spiring, bringing out the point that to Meredith Alumnae would fall the re sponsibility of seeing this Centennial Campaign brought to a successful close. "It Is easier to begin a task than to complete It," she said, “and we must see to It that the Interest and enthusiasm of the Baptists do not waver. Miss Joy Beaman then talked on tho subject “Is Meredith Worthy of tho Sucrillces we iti’e Making?” She de scribed the sacrllices made in the past by such men as 0. F. Strinjjlield, John E. Uay, Carey Hunter and Mias Heck and today by uiany of our Bap tist leaders, and the faculty and stu dent body of Meredith and others and challenged her hearers to live up to the standard that they had set; for her audience needed no proof that Mere dith was worthy of every effort each could make. Mrs. Vaughn then made an earnest plea that each Meredith daughter pres ent should go out and In every way possible try to get subscriptions for the Centennial Campaign so that by Deo. IS, Uoanoko Association should have raised Its quota and thereby helped to have made the future of their Alma Mater secure, After singing some college songs the meeting adjourned. Mus. L.
