COJIMENtEMEM’ >E\VS One of tho Alnmnae wrote us tho other day that she did hope we would publish Information about commence ment in time i'or people to make ar- rangonieuts to come. She said that some years she did not evon know the date. I imagine tiiere are others who are waiting for such nows as this, and I do hope you will get this ill time to make yoiir plans to be with us. Our President is sending out a letter this week, but we are takiiig tliis additional opportunity to get the facts before you, in case one of the communications should go as tray. The dates this year are May 20-29, thougli we hope many o£ you can come in time for the Senior, play on Friday night, May 25. Wo have been very mucli puzzled to know what to do about the date of the Alumnae meet ing. There were comparatively Hew I’eplies to the questitm in the Twrci as to whether you wanted the Alnmiiae meeting changod from Monday to Saturday for the benefit of those wiio are still teaching in various schools. Most ot the replies seemed to be for tiie change, but we imagine that you had in mind Saturday morniug. That would be an almost impossible time here at the College, as we do not finish examinations until noon. And we wonder it you would be as enthusias tic about an afternoon meeting. Of course we have the Art Exhibit on Saturday al’ternooii anyhow. Since we cannot And out definitely what the pref erence of tho majority is, and since the time now is so short, we decided that we had better have the Alumnae meeting Monday morning and the luncheon at one o’clock just as we have always done. At that time we can discuss the plan for the future, and those of you who cannot be present can have your vote. We do hope all oC you can be with us, and we strongly advise your dismissing your schools iC necessary! We waut you to have the luncheon at the Mansion Park Hotel (Old Main Building) an} to give you an opportunity, to go over the old l)uildingB. If you lon't think we ai'o planning a great time, just come and see! In closing, let me’remind you again how eager we are to have you come back this year, We do want to have a real family reunion, and wo send you. one and all. Won’t you please write us that you are coming so that we can know how to complete our plans here? We liave plenty of room, and you will need to bring only towels and bed linen. We can supply pillowsj and blankets if they are needed. Please fill in the following blank and nmil it to Caroline Diggers, Meredith College, Raleigh, N. C. If your plans are not doftnitely made made yet, clip It and send it In as soon as you can, but please do not forget it. We should like to hear as soon as wo can. If you have any preference about roomniatoa, we are giving you an opportunity to state that too. May we count you in for commence ment? When do you expect to arrive? Have you any preference as to room mates? May we reserve for you a ticket for the Alumnae Luncheon? Signed Address PHI PRESENTS ORIGINAL PLAYLET ARRANGED BY FRANCES FULGHUM The Philarctian Literary Society presented a most clever and entertain ing playlet at its regular weekly meet ing on Monday night. This number was arranged by Frances Fulglium, Class ol! ’30, with her assistants. It was a representation or the miserable life of Freshmen during sorority pledge week. Several of the Freshman pledges wore called in to perform for the benefit of Fratice.s and Anno Simms, and their respective dates. Freshman Janie Burns, sleepy-eyed and toualed-haired, was the first one called in to furnlBli music on the piano while Frances and Anne casually “chat ted” and listened alternately. Fresh-: man Madeliue Moare was mads to! “clog,” while Freshman Paulino Fi'cc-| man and Matilda Hoileman who ac-- cidentaliy stumbled in the room, were drafted into making stump speeches for Jigrjs and Andy Gu)ap, respectively, as prospective nomineea for President of United States. The discussion end ed in blows over whether il/J/j or ilfaff- (ik would make a more impressive “First Lady.” Freshman Constance Ellis was called in to bring “peace after tlie stonu" by playing Sweetheai'l I*RO;jn\E\T MEN 10 BE HERE van C0JIMEXCE3IENT (.Continued from page one) of Rochester, N. VISIONS MATitnA Hoi,loij:an Gee! but that old Latin was hard! The words look so unfamiliar—in fact, I don’t believe they were really Latin. Oh, how heavy my eyelids were, they just wouldn’t stay open, they just burned, and oh, how the yellow glow ot the lamp added to the song of slnml)crliind that rang in my head. Slowly but surely I’d soon sleep be neath the sandman's tree. “Matilda, aren’t you going to break- Caat this morning?" “Oo-oo, yes, I yawned but just re member. old roomie, I can go in one half an hour late, Laugh at that will you? So run along and eat your pan- cakc and Karo." “Gee, but it was good to be a privi leged chtuacfor. to snooze a half an hour later." " ’Tilda, how you dated this after noon?" “Don't talk to mo. Lib, I’m riding. 1 guess you remember that two of our number can ride with their “beaus.” Well, we are exerting one of our privi- legG.s this afternoon." “Say. are you going in the Caro lina-State game this afternoon?" “Sure ly, I’ll be right there, right on limn and aecompanicd, don’t worry.” "But when are yon gonna study, old lady?” “After every one of thoae Freshmen, Sophomores, and .luriors are fast jusleep and after I've liad a good time. I’ll get my dearly beloved work, dearie." Bang! “Visiting bell!" Wiiat -had I been dreaming? Wasn’t I a Senior after all that? Well, “it won’t l)e long now.” That was just a long drawn out dream—just a long drawn out di'cam—just three short years and 1 can have my dream come true, {Coniinued on jmfite Jour) IKENK THOMAS OP KOCKY MOUNT ELECTED SOPHOMORE PRESIDENT STAT 1867 1928 MEREDITH! e Appreciate Your Patronage .
