The alumnae croquet team of four was successful in its competition also. Horae-ahoe pitching and volleyball were both won by the students. By winning iwo out of the four contests the alumnae Itself was equal to their -younger sisters In pep and prowess. In keeping with the spirit of Stunt Mgiit was fTio presentation of original stunts by the Alumnae in the court at 4:30 p.m. The Odd and Even class es each presented an original and impromptu stunt,, the theme of which was the trial of Plush for the biting off of the tails of the three blind mice. The Evans, with Miss Bngrish as a most convincing Flush, presented the winning stunt. The bugle call was again tlie signal for the start of another event—the interclass 'bicycle relay race, which . was run oit in the driveway. Here the Sophs pedalled to victory In the speed phase of the competition, while Alice La Roque, a freshman, won recognition for the best old-fashioned costume. The intei'class song contest closed the afternoon. Grouped on the steps, each class sung an original aong com posed by its own members. The Sophs rendered their song best, while Dot Lowdermilk of the Junior Class re ceived the award of live dollars to the composer of the best music. Follow ing the aong contests, the alumnae joined the Student body on the steps, and under the leadership of Pat Abev- iiethy and Haxol Boswell, the whole group sang college songs. Auna- belle Hollowell was Sophomore editor of-tile Acorn last year and is now Junior Editor. Susan Rudisill was Assistant Business Manager of the Acorn last year, and is now Business Manager. The publications of Duke University are hosts to th» convention which has as headquarters the Washington Duke Hotel. Lamont Brown froni Davidson College is president of the Association this year. Last year Sarah Collins of the class of '37 was elected first vice president; however, she did not re turn to school this year. ALL FRENCH PROGRAMS PRESENTED BY CLUBS The Monday Club of the Alliance Francuiae met in the Blue Parlor at 5:00 p.m., November 4. A scene from Le Cld was read by Misses Hallbur- ton Emory and Kilton Peele, who were dressed to represent Spanish ladles in mourning. Several French songs were sung, and then a dialogue called Les Affaires des Jeunes Filtes was given by Misses Mary Bynum Dark and Vir ginia Combs. The meeting was closed with the singing of the Marseillaise. Tlie Senior Club of the Alliance Francaise met Friday evening. Nina Binder, Helen Melton, Mattie Messen ger and Violet Penny presented an all French program. Miss Aden ad dressed the club as a concluding feature. MUSIC FACULTY ASSISTS IN CONCERT OF BARITONE Three members of the Meredith fac ulty assisted in the concert glyen by St, Luke's Circle, Kings Daughters and. Sons which presented John Clin ton Adams, Baritone, in the Carolina Hotel Ball Room on November 1, at 8:15, Miss Pauline Wagar, 'cellist, plnyed during the fourth part of tlie pro gram, She played “Intrada” by Dgaplanes-Nachez, “Intermezzo" by Vivaldi, and “Gavotte" by Popper. Miss Wagar is assistant professor o£ ’cello and theory at Meredith. Miss Aileen McMillan of the music department ac companied her. Mrs, Lillian Parker Wallace of the history department accompanied both Mr. Adams and Mr. Christian D, KutscUinski. Mr. Kutschlnskl of State College played three selections, in cluding "Caprice Viennois" by Fritz Kreialer. Mr. Adams, who was the main artiat, la from Philadelphia. He has recent ly been atudying at Duke University where he has just completed work on his Ph.D. degree.
